If you’ve followed the Marvel movies sequentially, you might recognize Simu Liu as the action-packed, dragon-riding hero from Shang-Chi. However, lately, he’s been grabbing attention for something less superheroic and more amusing. The actor, who sent the internet into a frenzy with his casual grey sweatpants post, has dished about some behind-the-scenes details – such as the body hair removal he did to maintain that Ken-like vibe, and even mentioned one Barbie co-star who chose to stay out of the spotlight.
As a dedicated cinephile, I’ve been eagerly awaiting more details about “Avengers: Doomsday.” Exciting news just dropped – Simu Liu, star of “Shang-Chi,” has joined the cast! In an exclusive interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show’s YouTube channel, he shared his enthusiasm for rejoining the Marvel universe. Interestingly enough, he also opened up about his work on the upcoming “Barbie” movie. When asked about playing Ken, he reminisced about the unique experience it was to be part of that film project.
Indeed, I did undergo the process of waxing, and let me assure you, it was quite an uncomfortable experience for me. All the “Kens” went through this together, with only one exception – Schmingley Schmed-Aschmir, another member of our group, chose not to wax his legs in support of our cause. I’d rather not disclose his name, but you can guess it rhymes with Schmingsley.
If you’re following along here, it’s not-so-veiled criticism directed towards your Barbie co-star, Kingsley Ben-Adir, who seems to have chosen not to participate in the shared grooming scene.
In the blockbuster film “Barbie,” an impressive cast of Kens, including Ryan Gosling, Ncuti Gatwa, Scott Evans, and Ben-Adir, graced the screen with their flawless physiques characterized by impeccably smooth limbs and tanned abs. However, Liu suggests that the silky texture they sported was not without its price—a cost he believed was an inherent aspect of the role. He further explained:
Initially, I assumed it was about unity, but when he informed me that he wasn’t involved, I was taken aback, wondering if he had the option to decide.
This fresh piece of news contributes to the many insider accounts about Barbie, accessible with a Max subscription. It’s evident that Barbie remains popular, as evidenced by the movie’s success alongside Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. The box office seems to be recovering from the COVID-19 impact, and one can’t help but wonder if Sim Liu’s polished, handsome appearance played a role in the film’s success. I’m merely speculating to shine some light on the actor’s charm.
The film “Avengers: Doomsday” is currently being produced, and fortunately for Liu, his costume is a full-body suit, meaning he may not require any waxing as he prepares for his role in the upcoming superhero movie. I had expected to see more of Shang-Chi by this point, given that a sequel was promptly greenlit following the success of the first film. However, the sequel has yet to appear on Marvel Studios’ official schedule, causing some concern that it might have been canceled altogether. But with the announcement of his return, it’s fantastic news that he’ll be back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
