James Gunn Unveils First Look at Milly Alcock as Supergirl in Exciting Behind-the-Scenes Photo!

The filming for the movie titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” directed by Craig Gillespie, is underway in London. James Gunn has shared the first picture from the set featuring Milly Alcok as Supergirl. This project, written by Ana Nogueira, is based on the comic miniseries with the same name by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. The filming started on January 13, 2025, and is scheduled to continue until May 2025. After a year of post-production work, it will hit the theaters on June 26, 2026.

The joint CEO of DC Studios shared the initial set snapshot of “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” across various platforms like X, Instagram, and BluSky. In this post (view it below), Alcock can be seen with her back to the camera, seated in a chair adorned with the House of El emblem, symbolizing both Superman and Supergirl. The scene behind Alcock appears to be a vibrant, neon-lit alien bar, judging by the surroundings. The post’s caption reads:

Excited to witness the filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden for Supergirl, under the direction of Craig Gillespie, and featuring the talented Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El. Craig’s approach to the story is remarkable, while Milly embodies the one-of-a-kind Supergirl concept by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Nogueira.

In the upcoming film titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” an impressive ensemble has been gathered. Alongside Alcock, Eve Ridley will portray Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young extraterrestrial woman seeking Supergirl’s help to find the man responsible for her father’s death. Matthias Schoenaerts, from “The Danish Girl,” will play this very person – Krem of the Yellow Hills. David Krumholtz, known for his role in “Oppenheimer,” and Emily Beecham, star of “Into the Badlands,” have been chosen to play Supergirl’s parents, Zor-El and Alura respectively. Jason Momoa, famously Aquaman in the DCEU, will take on the part of Lobo for this movie. Lastly, Krypto, set to appear in 2025’s “Superman,” is also expected to make an appearance in this film as he plays a crucial role in the comic miniseries.

‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ Reveal is Similar to How ‘Superman’ Was Revealed

In a manner reminiscent of how James Gunn unveiled the first glimpse of Superman, the initial peek at “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” came during pre-production. On February 29, 2024, coinciding with Superman’s birthday in the comics, Gunn shared a sneak preview of his forthcoming DCU film, featuring the iconic Superman logo. This served as a hint that filming had commenced and offered fans a tantalizing glimpse of the Man of Steel. Although set photos leaked later, showcasing the Superman costume, an official image of the new suit was not disclosed until May 6, 2024. Given this timeline, it seems plausible that DC and Warner Bros. may delay the unveiling of Supergirl’s official costume until after the release of the upcoming Superman film, as Alcock’s portrayal of Supergirl appears to be featured in that movie.

Fans may find themselves more versed in the narrative of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow compared to Superman, given its ties to an acclaimed comic miniseries. However, it’s unlikely that the leakage of set photos will be as prevalent for the former due to its focus on diverse alien planets, which implies extensive shooting on soundstages rather than the numerous on-location shoots of Superman. The initial official photo might not provide much insight, but the anticipation among DC fans is palpable, as the upcoming Creature Commandos and the recent sneak peek for Superman hint at a cinematic universe that’s captivating enough to warrant investment.
