As a movie enthusiast, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the long-awaited unveiling of the next Superman trailer. The tantalizing hints from Warner Bros.’ Mike DeLuca and director James Gunn suggest that the wait might soon be over. DeLuca’s recent statement further fuels excitement, implying that Gunn has indeed grasped the essence of reviving the Man of Steel for a new cinematic adventure. After the captivating teaser trailer, fans have been craving more glimpses into this summer’s highly anticipated Superman movie. Although we were treated to an extended scene during A Minecraft Movie, many were taken aback when Warner Bros. didn’t drop the newest trailer on April 18, Superman Day.
In a recent chat on the SmartLess podcast (as reported by DC Film News), Mike DeLuca shared that he’s already watched an early version of the upcoming Superman movie, hinting that we can expect the promotional efforts for director James Gunn’s new DC project to kick off soon.
In simpler terms, DeLuca stated that they’ve previewed an early version of ‘Superman,’ and he can’t hold back his excitement as a lot of promotional activities are about to kick off before its release. However, James Gunn truly grasped the essence of what was expected from this project.
In the meantime, James Gunn posted a video featuring his dog Ozu, who serves as the inspiration for Krypto in the upcoming movie, reacting to Superman’s dog footage. When one fan inquired about the trailer, Gunn responded with a wink emoji, hinting that it might be coming soon.
Where is the ‘Superman’ Trailer?
Following the absence of Superman Day and the premiere of the studio’s blockbuster, Sinners, fans presumed a new Superman trailer would be unveiled towards the end of April or early May, to be shown alongside screenings of Thunderbolts*, the opening movie of the summer film season. However, Warner Bros. and DC Studios are taking a more measured approach, as part of a strategic marketing plan devised by Gunn. Unlike Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Superman did not make an appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2024, unlike its counterparts which received significant promotional efforts at the convention.
Some spectators are worried that Warner Bros. is delaying the unveiling of a fresh trailer for Superman, given that the movie is due out in just under two months, and the same preview has been playing in cinemas for over four months now. However, it seems that Warner Bros. might be adopting a strategy similar to that used by Barbie’s marketing team. Just like Superman, Barbie had a teaser trailer in December, but its full-length trailer wasn’t released until May 25, 2023. After this first trailer, there was an intense advertising campaign for Barbie, which Superman might replicate with various tie-ins and promotional events. Despite the second Barbie trailer being unveiled two months before its release, it still managed to become the highest-grossing film of 2023.
Impossible—The Final Reckoning and Lilo & Stitch. If you visit cinemas over Memorial Day weekend, you’ll likely see the latest Superman trailer, ensuring that the Man of Steel remains at the forefront of viewers’ minds as we approach its release date on July 11, 2025.
