As a lifelong comic book enthusiast who has spent countless hours poring over DC Universe lore and eagerly anticipating each new adaptation, I must say that James Gunn’s first trailer for Superman left me utterly enthralled! The combination of action, drama, and humor promised in this trailer is reminiscent of the early days of Christopher Reeve’s Superman films, which were a staple of my childhood.
In James Gunn’s eagerly awaited Superman, David Corenswet’s Man of Steel doesn’t appear overly powerful at first sight. The legendary DC superhero falls from the heavens and lands on a frosty wasteland, appearing to be close to his Fortress of Solitude. In this initial Superman appearance, Superman is bruised and bloodied, having suffered injuries from a battle that we did not witness. Interestingly, the subsequent scene in the first trailer for Superman reveals something never before seen in a live-action Superman film.

I’m thrilled to share that the DC universe as envisioned by James Gunn has officially kicked off! Check out the exhilarating, packed-with-action, and victorious trailer at the top of this article. Let’s embark on this new journey together!
James Gunn and his team carefully constructed this trailer, fully aware that each frame would be closely examined by an eager audience. Since Zack Snyder presented his distinctive Superman origin story “Man of Steel” in 2013, DC fans have been yearning for a standalone Superman movie. The film set the stage for the Batman vs. Superman collaboration which ultimately resulted in the demise of Superman, and ever since then, fans have been anticipating his comeback.
At a festive gathering in Los Angeles marking the unveiling of the initial Superman trailer, filmmaker James Gunn shared insights with reporters.
In my approach, I was meticulously thorough with the trailer’s creation. It underwent numerous revisions until I felt satisfied with the result. What primarily guided me throughout this process was ensuring the trailer accurately depicted the essence of the movie. While it didn’t need to include every detail from the film, of course, it should encapsulate the fundamental story we intended to convey. I believe that it has achieved this, but reaching that point required a significant amount of effort.
From my perspective as a movie reviewer, let me tell you about this latest Superman film. As anticipated, we witness the contrast between the super-empowered Superman in action and the clumsy human persona of Clark Kent (Corenswet) at The Daily Planet, or during interactions with his father figure, Jonathan Kent (Pruitt Taylor Vince). We catch glimpses of familiar universe characters, from the determined Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) to the ominous Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), brandishing a weapon that I presume is loaded with Kryptonite bullets.
But the unique aspect of James Gunn’s Superman is that the hero will be inserted into a universe that – from a narrative standpoint – already is up and running. So when the action kicks in, we see Superman (Corenswet) battling creatures alongside Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) and Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), a member of the Green Lantern Corp. We catch a shot of Superman mourning what looks like the robots that protect his Fortress of Solitude, and fighting a being who is rumored to be Ultraman. There’s a lot happening here for DC fans to process.
Fortunately, we have ample time, approximately several months, to sort everything out. The upcoming film, “Superman”, is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025, marking another step in the development of this fresh DC universe under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran. Which part of this sneak peek into the upcoming blockbuster did you enjoy the most?
