James Marsden Wants to Play Frank Sinatra in a Biopic

James Marsden wants to play Frank Sinatra in a biopic.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been captivated by the charm of the old-time crooners such as Bobby Darin, Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin,” I shared with the New York Post this week. “I’ve always felt there were so many compelling tales from Frank Sinatra’s life waiting to be brought to life on the big screen. Somehow, a movie about him has never been made.

In summary, Ray Liotta portrayed Sinatra in the 1998 television film “The Rat Pack”, James Russo took on that role in “Stealing Sinatra” (a TV movie released in 2003, focusing on the kidnapping of Sinatra’s son), Dennis Hopper played him in the 2003 film “The Night We Call It a Day”, which revolves around Sinatra’s 1963 Australia tour, and Robert Knepper portrayed him in the 2012 movie “My Way”, which tells the story of French singer Claude François’ life.

While Marsden’s statement isn’t entirely incorrect, it’s worth noting that there hasn’t been a blockbuster movie about Sinatra on par with the recent biopics for artists like Johnny Cash (“Walk The Line”), Ray Charles (“Ray”), Elvis, Freddie Mercury (“Bohemian Rhapsody”) and Bob Dylan.

Marsden mentioned that portraying a character similar to how Jamie Foxx did Ray Charles would be quite entertaining for him. He’s definitely up for the task, and he’d even bring his own vocal talents into play.

In 2007, Marsden utilized his singing talent in both the movies “Enchanted” and “Hairspray.” About the latter, he commented, “It felt like we were performing a Broadway show for a few months. It was fantastic…an incredibly enjoyable experience.

The actor from “Paradise” commented further, expressing that there are numerous untold stories about [Sinatra] – both those of a more troubled and somber nature, as well as inspiring ones. His achievements and impact are worth exploring. To date, I haven’t taken on the role of portraying someone in a biopic.
