As a longtime cinema enthusiast who has witnessed Jamie Foxx‘s meteoric rise to fame since the early 90s, I find myself both awestruck and amused by his recent Netflix special, “Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was.” Having been enthralled by his comedic genius on shows like “In Living Color” and “The Jamie Foxx Show,” I was genuinely surprised to learn that even his daughters, Corinne (30) and Anelise (16), had not fully grasped the extent of their father’s standup comedy roots.
For more than three decades, Jamie Foxx has been capturing attention not just as an exceptional actor, but also as one of our most amusing personalities. His role in In Living Color during the early 1990s played a significant part in his rise to fame, although his journey into show business began with stand-up comedy. Interestingly, prior to his latest comedy special titled “Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was“, which is accessible to all Netflix subscribers now, he had been absent from the stand-up scene for such a long time that even his daughters were taken aback by his performance.
What Did Jamie Foxx Reveal That His Daughters Said About Him Doing Standup?
It’s quite plausible that there might be individuals who have grown up recognizing Jamie Foxx solely as a movie star and host of “Beat Shazam,” unaware of his earlier role in “They Cloned Tyrone.” This was even true for his own children, Corinne (age 30) and Anelise (age 16), who were taken aback upon watching one of his specials on a popular streaming service.
While speaking with Netflix’s Strong Black Lead he revealed his daughters’ response, saying:
It was intriguing to observe my daughters, Anelise and Corrine, observing me for the first time. Anelise reacted with surprise, saying, “Dad, I didn’t know,” to which I responded, “Yes, it turns out all those jokes and antics were worth every penny for the house we live in.
Even though fans’ memories can be fleeting, especially when it comes to someone like Jamie Foxx, who transitioned from stand-up comedy to acting in just two years and won an Oscar for his role in “Ray” (2004), one might find it surprising that those he raised (one of whom he has worked with since 2017) could be unaware of his humble beginnings.
Jamie Foxx made an unexpected joke about Diddy during a heartfelt narrative about his hospital operation.
To clarify, as Foxx mentioned in the video, he hasn’t “formally” performed standup comedy on stage for nearly 18 years, which is more than half of Corinne’s lifetime and longer than Anelise has been alive. It seems neither of them have searched their famous father online, as they likely would have discovered one of his previous appearances where he entertained a crowd with his humor. It’s worth mentioning that despite the fact that his kids might not be fully aware of all the great things their father has accomplished in keeping people amused throughout the years, they are still familiar with many aspects of his career. Foxx’s exceptional movie roles often earned him award recognition, and there are even performances some believe should have garnered an Oscar nomination for him. On top of this, he has also achieved success in music, with numerous albums and hits to his name. His daughters have often joined him at events, even when they were quite young, indicating that they appreciate the impact of his career on his fans, whether it be laughter or something more profound.
