Jamie Lee Curtis to Receive Honorary Doctorate From American Film Institute

As a huge fan of Jamie Lee Curtis, I am absolutely thrilled to witness her latest accomplishment – receiving an honorary doctorate of fine arts degree from the American Film Institute (AFI). This recognition is well-deserved for an actress who has left an indelible mark on Hollywood and continues to inspire generations with her fearless approach to her craft.

Jamie Lee Curtis, a renowned actress who has won an Academy Award and was recently nominated for an Emmy for her exceptional performance on “The Bear,” is set to receive another recognition. The American Film Institute made an announcement today, stating that they will award Curtis with an honorary doctorate of fine arts degree in acknowledgment of her significant contributions to the world of filmmaking.

During the AFI Conservatory’s graduation ceremony for the class of 2024, which will take place at Hollywood’s TCL Chinese Theatre on August 10, Curtis will be honored with his diploma and recognition.

Curtis now shares the esteemed company of an impressive group of past award recipients, such as Robert Altman, Angela Bassett, Kathryn Bigelow, Mel Brooks, Carol Burnett, Clint Eastwood, Nora Ephron, James Earl Jones, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Kathleen Kennedy, Angela Lansbury, Spike Lee, David Lynch, Helen Mirren, Rita Moreno, Gina Prince-Bythewood, Paul Schrader, Quentin Tarantino, Lily Tomlin, Robert Towne, Cicely Tyson, John Williams, Jodie Foster, and Michelle Yeoh.

“Bob Gazzale, AFI’s president and CEO, praised Jamie Lee Curtis as a brilliant star born from the combination of her iconic parents Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh. Her fearless commitment to her craft and unwavering efforts in shaping our contemporary culture personify greatness. We’re thrilled to celebrate her accomplishments at AFI Commencement, inspiring the next generation of storytellers with her captivating journey.”

Curtis is a seasoned actress with an impressive resume. She’s most recognized for her lengthy portrayal of Laurie Strode in the Halloween series. However, she’s also shone brightly in numerous other films, including “True Lies,” “Trading Places,” “A Fish Called Wanda,” “Knives Out,” “Freaky Friday,” “My Girl,” “You Again,” “Blue Steel,” “Christmas with the Kranks,” and “The Tailor of Panama.” Her stellar work earned her an Oscar and SAG Award, most recently for “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” In 2021, Curtis was honored with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Film Festival.

As a gamer, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be jumping into a new role in Eli Roth’s upcoming production called “Borderlands.” While filming for “Freaky Friday 2” with Lindsay Lohan is keeping me busy, this latest project is something I’m really looking forward to. On the side, as an author whose recent release was “Just One More Sleep,” I’ve also founded and run My Hand In Yours. It’s a charitable organization that brings joy to children at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles – every sale made contributes 100 percent directly to their cause.
