Cancel Culture is on the run, but it’s not dead yet.
Recently, some artists have issued public apologies in a manner reminiscent of hostage videos, following actions that sparked outrage among social justice advocates. An example of this is Scarlett Johansson, who later retracted her decision to play a transgender character in the film “Rub and Tug.
(That film project never saw the light of day after the “Black Widow” star pulled out)
Even renowned author Stephen King, known for his significant contributions to modern literature, expressed regret following his statement advocating that Oscar awards should be based on merit rather than identity politics.
That was then.
Today, prominent figures such as Sylvester Stallone are publicly backing President Donald Trump, and some are calling for an apology in response. Contrastingly, during Trump’s inauguration, celebrities like Kid Rock, Carrie Underwood, and Snoop Dogg were among the attendees, yet no one issued a tearful apology the following day.
Except Jewel.
In the ’90s, a popular figure recognized for songs such as “Who Will Save Your Soul,” graced a Republican Fundraising ball in honor of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was selected by Donald Trump for the position of Health and Human Services Secretary.
That enraged a select group of Jewel’s fans.
She rushed to her Instagram account to share a video apology as if it were still 2020.

In her video address, she expressed sincere regret for any harm she may have inflicted, particularly within the LGBTQ+ community.
She also attempted to bring context to her appearance.
If I only start acting when I completely agree with those who could potentially assist me, I’d never take action. I believe activism isn’t about waiting for perfection; rather, it’s about finding opportunities to engage and participate amidst the imperfections. And we must act promptly. We can’t afford to wait another four years…
I aspire to be a source of positivity and guidance for the world. I strive to bring that brightness into your lives… I understand that during tough times, we need to shine brighter, so I promise to rise up tomorrow and try again. And I’ll trust each of you to do the same.
“I’m so sorry that some of my longtime fans felt I let them down,” she said.
The apology seems to have fallen on deaf ears, as per the comments left on the linked video from Instagram.
It’s hard to fathom how someone can be an advocate for mental health while simultaneously backing an administration that appears to be causing harm and distress to the LGBTQIA+ and racial minority communities, particularly those who are Black and Brown. It seems like a paradox that needs addressing.
Are you aware of what contributes significantly to saving lives? It’s about ensuring health care availability, fostering education accessibility, creating an environment where individuals feel accepted, and promoting diversity and inclusivity in society. Now, could you explain how exactly the Republican Party works towards these objectives?
Oh dear, after devoting 25 years to being a fan, it’s all gone to waste now. There’s simply no justification for associating oneself with hate speech and anti-science sentiments. Such actions do nothing but hinder our efforts towards improving mental health.
You would think she would have learned that apologies aren’t accepted on the far-Left.
Maybe she realizes that now.
