Jill Jacobson, ‘The New Gidget’ and ‘Falcon Crest’ Television Actress, Dies at 70

As a fan who grew up watching the magic of television unfold, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of nostalgia and loss with the passing of Jill Jacobson. She was more than just an actress to me; she was a part of my childhood, a familiar face that brought joy and laughter into my living room every week.

Jill Jacobson, a talented actress known for her appearances in ‘Star Trek’ series and other popular shows like ‘Falcon Crest’ and ‘The New Gidget’, passed away at the age of 70.

On December 8th, I took my final breath at the Culver West Health Center of Cedars-Sinai, after a prolonged struggle with an ailment. My dear friend, Dan Harary, shared this news with The Hollywood Reporter.

From 1985-87, Jacobson starred in 22 episodes of the CBS prime-time drama “Falcon Crest,” which revolved around a prosperous California vineyard family. Simultaneously, she appeared in “The New Gidget” from 1986-87, a continuation of the 1960s ABC soap opera about a teenage surfer, initially led by Sally Field.

As Jill’s co-star in “The New Gidget” with Jacobson, I can wholeheartedly say that her comic timing was nothing short of exceptional. Her infectious enthusiasm and zest for life truly transformed our on-set experiences into moments of pure joy.

Jacobson made an appearance on Star Trek: The Next Generation in the year 1989, and he was also part of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in 1996.

I’ve had the privilege of appearing on various TV shows throughout my career, such as Hung, Newhart, Castle, Who’s the Boss?, Quantum Leap, Crazy Like a Fox, Arliss, and Murphy Brown. Additionally, I had a small role in Ron Howard’s 1984 film, Splash.

More currently, Jacobson has been a regular performer at Los Angeles’ establishments such as The Improv and The Comedy Store, delivering her stand-up acts.

Born and raised in Beaumont, Texas, as well as Dallas, Jacobson is the child of Dr. Harry Jacobson and Carol Toplitz Jacobson Hornstein. She pursued a B.S. in Radio, TV, and Film Performance at the University of Texas, Austin, before relocating to Los Angeles and landing the leading role in the iconic film, Nurse Sherri.

Jacobson served as a representative and honoree for her voluntary efforts at the American Cancer Society. “She will be sorely missed by many family members, friends, and her cherished canines, Benny and Kowalski,” Harary commented.
