Since “Captain America: Brave New World” is now showing in cinemas, there are only two more Marvel movies left for release this year. The second one, coming up after a while, is titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps“. This film will appear shortly following the 2025 movie lineup’s “Thunderbolts,” and although much has been revealed about “The Fantastic Four: First Steps“, many mysteries remain unsolved for the reboot, such as the character played by John Malkovich. However, one thing that isn’t a mystery is why Malkovich chose to join “First Steps” after declining multiple chances to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A quote from his filmography immediately comes to mind: “Pay that man his money.
Indeed, the memorable quote from Malkovich’s KGB character in the 1998 film “Rounders” came to mind when I read about the subject of “Being John Malkovich” expressing his reasons for not participating in Marvel movies so far. To put it simply, he initially commented:
I had no artistic reasons for not completing them; quite the contrary, I found the business deals they proposed entirely unappealing. Making these films is physically demanding and time-consuming, and I expect fair compensation. If you’re unable to offer that, I’d prefer to focus on other creative pursuits like acting on stage or directing a play instead.
Essentially, John Malkovich understands his value and won’t settle for anything less. I’m intrigued to discover which other Marvel films he was offered, but regardless, he felt that the proposed deal didn’t compensate him fairly for spending half a year on a blockbuster project. Interestingly enough, working on The Fantastic Four: First Steps taught him that the work wasn’t significantly different from what he would have preferred if he were adequately remunerated, as he himself put it.
As a movie enthusiast, I find it’s somewhat analogous to playing a part on stage. Instead of interacting with real people and physical props, I conjure up characters and scenarios in my mind, then bring them to life through the screen.

As a Fan Who’s Adored Every Marvel’s Fantastic Four Film, I Can’t Contain My Excitement About Our Initial Peek at the Upcoming Fantastic Four: First Strides!
Watching the trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps filled me with joy, but now I have a particular worry regarding Galactus.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps Trailer left me thrilled, however, there’s a specific issue that has arisen in my mind concerning Galactus.
It’s great news for Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans and cinema-goers in general that John Malkovich, who resembles his Rounders character, has been compensated to an acceptable degree for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. As of now, we don’t know the role that John Malkovich will be playing in the initial Phase Six film, and it’s unclear whether this information will be shared through interviews or marketing beforehand, or if it will be a surprise in the movie itself. However, given the efforts made to secure his services, it’s likely we can expect him to have substantial screen time.
John Malkovich’s co-stars for the film “First Steps” are Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Joseph Quinn, Ralph Ineson, Julia Garner, Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles. Directed by Matt Shakman, who is known for “WandaVision”, this movie is set in a distinct part of the Marvel multiverse and will hit theaters on July 25th.
