In the recent episode of Last Week Tonight, John Oliver didn’t delay in focusing on the United States, remarking that “the situation has been turbulent.” Particularly, he addressed the ongoing public spat between Donald Trump and Elon Musk on social networking platforms.
A disagreement surfaced between the president and a tech mogul soon following Musk’s resignation as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), after which he publicly denounced the Republican Party’s “One Big Beautiful Bill”. On Thursday, they engaged in a series of exchanges on their respective social media sites, Truth Social and X, trading barbs and hostile messages aimed at one another.
In one tweet, Trump asserted that Musk had grown tiresome and asked him to depart, followed by stating “he went completely insane.” In response, Musk, without providing any proof, suggested that the president is mentioned in undisclosed government documents concerning the late billionaire sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The tech magnate concluded his statement with a friendly farewell, “Have a good day, DJT!”
Or
Trump tweeted about Musk, saying he was becoming bothersome and asked him to depart, then claimed “he lost his mind.” In response, Musk, without any backing, implied that the president is mentioned in secret government files related to Jeffrey Epstein, a deceased billionaire accused of sexual misconduct. Finishing off with a friendly note, Musk said, “Enjoy your day, DJT!
On Last Week Tonight, I jokingly pointed out that while Trump’s name in Epstein’s files might not be a groundbreaking revelation, it’s something people have been assuming all along. In essence, they’ve been embroiled in a spat like two reality TV stars might, displaying a high dose of ‘Real Housewives’ drama,” I said.
Later, the humorous British entertainer mentioned Andy Cohen, who expressed interest on Twitter on a Thursday, saying, “I’D LOVE TO HOST THE REUNION,” alluding to the lively reunion specials for the reality show, The Real Housewives, that he usually moderates.
As a gamer, it feels totally logical to me that these two characters should reunite. At heart, they’re like virtual rivals in an MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) game, constantly vying for the spotlight and attention. Their digital hair might not be as expensive, but it’s definitely over-the-top and questionable! Their online ventures are shrouded in mystery, much like a complex quest line. And if they don’t get their share of screen time or attention, well… I’ve seen them ‘disconnect’ and disappear!
To be frank, what seems to be lacking is an unruly face-to-face altercation, where Andy Cohen might get one of them to read a tweet and the other responds by flinging a daiquiri at him – it’s just a playful idea I had. But seriously, why can’t something like this happen?
Over the last year, I’ve developed a strong bond with both Trump and Musk. However, it seems that things have taken a turn for the worse between them. You see, the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and Starlink has contributed roughly $300 million to Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign and other Republican candidates. Yet, lately, there appears to be some discord in their relationship.
