As a seasoned gamer with a keen eye for Hollywood trends and a soft spot for nostalgia, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon learning about Lionsgate‘s acquisition of the adult comedy “Rager.” The project, penned by Jon Kasdan and Dan Klein, is shaping up to be quite a spectacle, given their impressive resumes.
Lionsgate has acquired the rights for the mature comedy titled “Rager,” with Jon Kasdan set to take on the directorial role and co-write the script alongside Dan Klein.
The details about this script are being kept confidential, however, it’s known that the Imagine Entertainment project is being produced by Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody, and Allan Mandelbaum. Justin Wilkes will be serving as an executive producer for this production.
Kasdan collaborated on the script for “Solo: A Star Wars Story” with his father, Lawrence Kasdan, and is currently the writer and executive producer for the Disney+ series “Willow.” Previously, he has written and directed films like “The First Time” and “In the Land of Women.” Earlier in his career, Kasdan worked as a writer on the TV show “Freaks and Geeks” and acted in shows such as “Dawson’s Creek” and “Dreamcatcher.
Klein has been recognized for his roles in ‘Miracle Workers’ on TBS and ‘Wet Hot American Summer’. Meanwhile, Lionsgate has seen success with films like ‘Knives Out’, the last two ‘John Wick’ movies, revitalizing the ‘Hunger Games’ franchise through ‘The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes’ and the latest entry in the ‘Saw’ series. Upcoming movies from the company include ‘Dirty Dancing’, ‘Now You See Me 3’, and ‘Ballerina’.
Imagine Entertainment, co-founded by Grazer and Howard, who’ve been major players in Hollywood for quite some time, have shifted their initial partnership with Apple over to Amazon Studios. Amazon, being a tech powerhouse, intends to put out between 12 and 15 movies in theaters every year, with an emphasis on expanding into local cinemas.
Klein is repped by Rise Management and Ziffren Brittenham. Kasdan is repped by CAA.
Initially, it was ‘Deadline’ that broke the news about the transition of the ‘Rager’ project from Imagine Entertainment to Lionsgate.
