The aftermath of the grand conclusion in “Avengers: Endgame” has brought a blend of successes and setbacks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Notable triumphs include the latest installments featuring Deadpool and Wolverine, but there have also been disappointing performances such as “The Marvels.” Yet, the most substantial blow to the franchise in recent times is the necessity to rethink the framework of the ongoing and future phases of the MCU due to the departure of actor Jonathan Majors.
As a devoted fan, I’ve always admired Majors for his captivating performances in Hollywood. When it was announced he would portray Kang, the formidable antagonist across the next three phases of the MCU, I was thrilled. He graced our screens in numerous films and the Marvel series on Disney+, skillfully laying the groundwork for his character’s story. However, after a run-in with legal troubles and allegations, it seemed as though those meticulously planned storylines had hit a roadblock.
It has been suggested recently that Major’s character, Kang, might make another appearance. There were whispers that Marvel Studios head, Kevin Feige, was contemplating bringing back Majors to conclude the Kang saga. However, a different source now disputes this claim. So, it seems there is some confusion about what will actually happen.
Jonathan Majors Is Reportedly Not Coming Back To The MCU
It’s fascinating to speculate about potential collaborations between Marvel and Majors, but it seems talks about Kang the Conqueror might not be on the table. According to TMZ, their sources claim that no such discussions have transpired, suggesting Marvel isn’t planning on re-recruiting Majors at this time.
It’s possible but quite unpredictable for Marvel and Majors to collaborate in the future, however, given that Marvel Studios is currently focusing on other projects like having Robert Downey Jr. play Dr. Doom, it seems improbable that they will work together anytime soon. With Marvel reportedly offering Downey a substantial amount of money, it’s unlikely we’ll see Majors return until the ongoing storyline has been wrapped up.
Why Jonathan Majors Lost His Role As Kang
The legal troubles of the actor date back to March 2023, when he was indicted on multiple charges of assault linked to an altercation with his former partner. Consequently, he was removed from various advertising campaigns and a movie due to the accusations. It was speculated that the studio might drop him, but Marvel Studios initially chose to remain neutral.
In December 2023, it wasn’t until after Majors was convicted of assault that Marvel Studios declared they were ending their association with the actor. Although he received a sentence for just a year of therapy, his career faced much more severe repercussions.
At first, there were rumors suggesting Marvel would just replace Kang and carry on with the current narrative. However, they decided to change course instead, and it’s uncertain if Kang will be mentioned again moving forward. If he isn’t, this could potentially keep the door open for using the character in the future.
Jonathan Majors’ career has begun to gain some momentum, though modestly so. His movie titled “Magazine Dreams“, initially considered an Oscar contender before the accusations, is finally coming out. As for what lies ahead, it’s hard to say; a comeback to the MCU or Jonathan Majors could be on the horizon, but at this point, it’s not materializing.
