‘Jury Duty’ Renewed at Amazon, Season 2 Already Filmed

Amazon Prime Video is set to bring back the series Jury Duty for another season, which they’ve already filmed, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday.

Amazon refused to provide a statement regarding the recent news. The first season of the show premiered on Amazon’s Freevee in 2023, captivating viewers with its realistic comedy based on candid camera antics starring Ronald Gladden, unaware of the setup. Actors, such as James Marsden portraying himself, grew into their roles as exaggerated versions of courtroom figures like jurors and a judge, while Gladden continued to believe the entire charade was genuine.

Reports indicate that the second season of “Jury Duty” will move away from courtroom proceedings and instead take place at a corporate retreat. This was filmed in the suburban area of Los Angeles, specifically Agoura Hills.

Previously, showrunner Cody Heller expressed her fears to THR about achieving the candid camera trick. However, it was this very fear of failure that sparked something within her. Eventually, the project’s success was largely due to the exceptional cast. As she put it, “Ronald Gladden rekindled my belief in humanity.

Marsden echoed Heller’s sentiments when discussing his own set experience. “It’s not like anything you’ve experienced before,” he shared with THR. “There’s only one chance to get it right. If a hidden camera is detected or someone uses the wrong name, the entire production can unravel. That sense of uncertainty was thrilling for me – I couldn’t help but wonder if we could actually pull this off.

Eventually, Gladman warmly accepted the unveiling by candid camera, leading to signing with Gersh and securing a personal contract with Amazon. This arrangement allows him to produce and feature in a range of content. To this day, he, Marsden, and other cast members from the show continue to be friends.

The television show titled Jury Duty was developed by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who also served as executive producers during the first season alongside Heller, Bernad, Schulman, Ruben Fleischer, Nicholas Hatton, Andrew Weinberg, and Jake Szymanski (who also directed it).
