After a prolonged court dispute, Kangana Ranaut and Javed Akhtar have come to an amicable resolution in their mutual defamation lawsuit. The actress famously known for her role during the Emergency period, shared the good news through her social media platforms.
On the 28th of February, Kangana Ranaut posted a picture alongside esteemed lyricist Javed Akhtar. In this snapshot, they both are captured smiling as they pose for a joyful photo within the courtroom of a legal magistrate’s office.
In the caption, she stated that “Today, Javed ji and I have settled our legal dispute (defamation case) amicably through mediation. Throughout this process, Javed ji showed great kindness and generosity towards me, and he has even agreed to compose songs for my upcoming directorial project.

As reported by India Today, Kangana and Javed arrived at the Bandra magistrate’s court around 10:30 in the morning. They subsequently entered the chamber of Magistrate Ashish Awari, accompanied by their legal representatives – Jay K. Bhardwaj and Rizwan Siddique respectively.
For those unfamiliar, the legal dispute between Kangana and another individual started following an interview she gave to a news station in 2020, shortly after the passing of Sushant Singh Rajput. As reported by Hindustan Times, during this interview, among other remarks, she alleged that the renowned lyricist had urged her to apologize to Hrithik Roshan – the actor who had initiated a lawsuit against her in 2016, demanding an apology following a public disagreement over claims about their supposed relationship.
In an interview, she shared that one time Javed Akhtar contacted her at his home and warned her about Rakesh Roshan (Hrithik’s father) and his family being highly influential figures. If she didn’t apologize to them, she would face serious consequences including imprisonment, public disgrace, and eventually, the downfall that could lead to suicide – this was the message conveyed to her in a threatening manner. She recounted how he spoke harshly and angrily to her, leaving her trembling in his presence.
Responding to these accusations, I, Javed Akhtar, chose to take legal action by filing a defamation lawsuit. I firmly refute the claims made against me, labeling them as untruthful. As I see it, the actress unfairly involved me during her interview when she mentioned a ‘coterie’ in Bollywood.
Later on, Kangana initiated a retaliatory lawsuit in the same court against Akhtar, accusing him of “demanding money under false pretenses and threatening behavior.
