Kevin Bacon’s Scariest Autograph Moment!

Kevin Bacon, renowned for movies such as “Stir of Echoes,” “Mystic River,” and “A Few Good Men,” began his film career with a part in the iconic horror movie “Friday the 13th.” In a recent interview, Bacon spoke about his initial role in the 1980 film that kick-started a franchise. Interestingly, he takes pride in one of his early films. However, there’s something related to his involvement in the slasher series that he isn’t particularly fond of. If you’re considering asking him for an autograph using “Friday the 13th” memorabilia, you might want to reconsider.

Michael Bacon recently spoke with Variety, where he was challenged to recall lines from his films. While he managed to guess most of them, he had some uncertainty when it came to “Friday the 13th”. The line read, “It’s going to demolish that valley like a bullet,” but Bacon hesitated to mention the title initially. However, he eventually confirmed it was the iconic slasher film directed by Sean S. Cunningham.

In discussing the enduring impact of the movie, Bacon noted that it played a significant role in establishing the conventions of slasher films. Essentially, he pointed out that many teen-oriented slasher movies back then served as morality tales; if you engaged in activities like sex or drug use, your character would meet a grisly end. Given his own history of such behaviors, as portrayed in “Succession,” it’s no surprise that he was cast. Moreover, Bacon shared that the scene of his death in the film is often recalled when fans ask for his autograph, a fact he finds unfortunate but unavoidable.

Absolutely, my on-screen demise in horror films has gained quite the notoriety. Unfortunately, when it comes to autograph sessions, the most requested photo is usually one where I’m portraying a deceased character, which sometimes gives me a peculiar feeling. When someone approaches and asks, “Could you sign this for me?” it’s often like they want me to pose as if I were that dead character.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but recall my chilling encounter with Jack from Friday the 13th. After a passionate night of romance under the stormy skies, his fate took a grim turn. In true slasher movie fashion, the guides at Camp Crystal Lake were falling like dominoes, and poor Jack couldn’t evade the fury of the film’s relentless killer.

Caught unaware, he lay in bed when, without warning, a metal arrow pierced through his neck from below, its menacing tip emerging as a pool of blood gushed forth from the fatal wound. This gruesome scene undoubtedly stands out as one of the most iconic kills in the Friday the 13th saga.

Kevin Bacon on ‘Hollow Man’: “One of the Most Physically Challenging Movies I Ever Did”

In the video, Kevin Bacon recounts memorable lines from movies such as Footloose, Tremors, National Lampoon’s Animal House (his first role), and Sleepers, among others. However, two scenes particularly resonate with him: Wild Things, where he discusses an unsettling incident during filming when the crew discovered a real deceased boy, and Hollow Man, which he describes as an unanticipated experience that proved to be quite challenging for him. This is what the actor shared:

As a film enthusiast, I couldn’t help but feel thrilled when I was offered a role where I could bring an invisible character to life. I naively thought, “This will be easy; I can just record my lines and enjoy the luxury of working from home.” Boy, was I wrong! Instead, I found myself transforming into the green screen, a concept familiar to many, where backgrounds are added later in post-production. However, in this case, it was my job to be green for most of the scenes, so that when they extracted my character, the magic of filmmaking could happen.

In many aspects, the movie ‘Hollow Man’ was one of the most demanding physically for me to perform.
