As the release date for Monster Hunter Wilds approaches, an increasing number of colossal creatures akin to Leviathan are being added to the game’s roster following Capcom’s launch trailer reveal.
The trailer displayed an extensive collection of scenes, featuring 14 distinct weapon varieties as well as fearsome creatures known as Apexes who rule the Forbidden Lands. We’ve already seen three of these Apexes, thanks to Capcom’s previous previews. Now, there’s a new addition – the fourth and final Apex called Jin Dahaad, a colossal ice leviathan that claims a large section of the map.
In the game, Jin Dahaad rules supreme over the fourth biome known as the Iceshard Cliffs. This towering beast controls the entire region, flanked by an army of monsters that call this icy landscape home. Among these natives is a newly unveiled creature called Hirabami, a colossal leviathan resembling a centipede that floats gracefully above the ground.
It appears that, based on the launch trailer, Jin Dahaad is enormous and noteworthy as he possesses the same skeletal structure as a well-known monster from the franchise – the Lagiacrus. Jin has the ability to summon colossal ice blocks for protection and skillfully employs the Frostwinds of the Iceshard Cliffs to his strategic advantage.
Besides Ice Apex, another previously unveiled Leviathan in the game is making a comeback: the sleek and nimble Mizutsune. This return is part of Monster Hunter Wilds’ free updates. Players who have played earlier versions, particularly Monster Hunter Rise, will appreciate the inclusion of Mizutsune. As one of the old-gen’s Fated Four, Mizu is a swift leviathan that can generate bubbles and afflict hunters with bubbleblight, causing them to lose their footing.

As an enthusiastic player, I can’t help but appreciate the seasonal updates that enrich our gaming experience with fresh content like new monsters and events. This was clearly demonstrated in Monster Hunter World and Iceborne, where we were treated to the addition of Alatreon and Fatalis, just as it is now in Rise with Primordial Malzeno and Lucent Nargacuga. These exciting updates keep the game fresh and engaging!
In the game after its initial launch, Mizutsune was the first monster to appear, and developers at Capcom plan to expand an already extensive lineup even further. It’s possible that popular monsters such as Zinogre and Tigrex could make an appearance in the future.
