Legendary action star and comedian favorite, brings out his unique talents to tickle your funny bone in the highly anticipated revival of “The Naked Gun,” now screening at CinemaCon. The official trailer for this production was unveiled at the event and has since been made available online, showcasing a hilariously absurd spectacle that is sure to delight.
Starting off as the brief television show Police Squad! in 1982, The Naked Gun eventually grew into a series of three movies starring Leslie Nielson’s character, “the detective with a golden heart and wooden brain,” Frank Drebin. The first film, titled The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, was released in 1988, followed by two sequels: The Naked Gun 2+1⁄2: The Smell of Fear in 1991 and Naked Gun 33+1⁄3: The Final Insult in 1994. To this day, the trilogy is fondly remembered by fans as a classic comedy series, with many debating whether a remake could ever match its original appeal.
After a long time in development, the new version of “The Naked Gun” is not a remake but rather a fresh take or reboot. This new interpretation promises to be something entirely new compared to its predecessor.
‘The Naked Gun’ Reboot Is Due To Hit Theaters on August 1, 2025
Essentially, Paul Walter Hauser, who stars alongside Liam Neeson in Cobra Kai, has shared some interesting insights on the upcoming The Naked Gun reboot. The key point is that it will focus on the children of the original characters.
In “The Naked Gun,” I portray the son of Captain Ed Hocken, a character originally played by George Kennedy in the earlier installments. Liam Neeson stars as the son of Leslie Nielsen’s character, Frank Drebin Jr. The film demonstrated a remarkable ability to maintain the right tone, which is no small feat. Akiva Schaffer, whom I admire, was instrumental in this project. He and his team approached it with utmost sincerity, aiming to create low-brow comedy from a sophisticated perspective. They were also committed to preserving the original series’ distinctive tone. From what I’ve seen while filming, it seems they have managed to capture that essence and will likely delight many fans when the movie is released.
Although enthusiasts might anticipate what Neeson, producer Seth MacFarlane, and director Akiva Schaffer will create with the revival of The Naked Gun, it seems that the person who isn’t supportive is the filmmaker behind the original production, David Zucker.
It seems they’ve decided to move forward without me on this project. I wasn’t consulted about giving the franchise to others, which was disappointing since we believed our script was exceptional and had garnered positive feedback. Unfortunately, I have no influence over their decisions. I’m not part of the process, and they haven’t requested my input. It appears they’re solely pursuing their vision for this project.
