As a cinephile who’s witnessed the evolution of cinema since the dawn of the talkies, I can’t help but feel a sense of profound gratitude and admiration for the Library of Congress’s commitment to preserving our cinematic legacy. Each year, they add 25 diverse films to the National Film Registry, ensuring that future generations can appreciate the cultural tapestry weaved by these stories.
2024 sees the Library of Congress unveiling the collection of films they plan to conserve in their National Film Registry.
25 more movies will be included in the archive, such as “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre“, “The Social Network”, “Dirty Dancing”, “No Country for Old Men”, “Up in Smoke”, “Uptown Saturday Night”, and “Spy Kids”. As custodians of our nation’s history and cultural identity, we take pride in adding 25 fresh and diverse films to the National Film Registry annually as part of our commitment to preserve our cultural legacy. This was expressed by Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden in a statement.
We’re working together as a community in the world of cinema to safeguard our rich film history, and we extend our thanks to our collaborators, among them the National Film Preservation Board.
In the previous year, among the movies conserved, we found titles such as Home Alone, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and 12 Years a Slave.
