Lisa Kudrow Says the ‘Friends’ Cast Only Reunited Once After the Hit Comedy Ended

As a movie reviewer with over three decades of film-watching under my belt, I can confidently say that the reunion of the Friends cast after such a long hiatus was a heartwarming and nostalgic event. Lisa Kudrow‘s revelation about their post-Friends dinner meeting only further solidifies the camaraderie between these six talented individuals.

The cast of the popular TV show “Friends” was admired for their on-screen chemistry that appeared to extend beyond the set. However, it’s interesting to note that in the 17 years spanning from the series finale to the reunion special, the Friends cast only reunited once, as revealed by Lisa Kudrow. During a recent interview on Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s podcast “Dinner’s On Me”, Kudrow disclosed that she, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, and the late Matthew Perry all gathered for dinner at someone’s residence about ten years after the final episode of Friends was aired.

“We’d only had dinner, the six of us, once before since the show ended,” Kudrow told Ferguson.

Despite the passage of time since their last gathering, Kudrow noted that there was no disruption in their rhythm. The TV show Friends, which first aired in 1994 and catapulted its cast into stardom, displayed such seamless on-screen chemistry between characters that it seemed unlikely they’d have any awkward dynamics off-camera. However, Kudrow revealed during an interview on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast that the bond among the main cast required effort. Building and maintaining open communication was a crucial aspect of this process.

People didn’t find what someone said or did to be significant because they simply asked, ‘May I discuss something with you?’ I had to learn this approach as I wasn’t aware that was acceptable. I observed it being done in a very respectful manner by Courteney, Jennifer, and Matt, which served as an excellent model for me.

Beyond Central Perk: Lisa Kudrow’s Post-‘Friends’ Projects

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but reflect on the incredible impact that “Friends” had during its ten-season reign. This beloved sitcom garnered acclaim, amassed a massive fan base, and solidified itself as a true pop culture phenomenon. Among its talented cast, Jennifer Aniston as Rachel Green and Courteney Cox as Monica Geller are undeniably iconic, but let’s not forget the exceptional Lisa Kudrow who brought Phoebe Buffay to life.

Back in 2005, Lisa Kudrow made her mark on television by starring, co-creating, and executive producing HBO’s highly praised series, “The Comeback.” This show focused on a once successful sitcom actress trying to make a comeback, leading to numerous award nominations for Kudrow, including an Emmy nod for Best Actress. HBO later brought back the show for another season in late 2014. On the big screen, Kudrow has featured in movies such as “P.S. I Love You,” “Easy A,” “Neighbors,” and “Booksmart.” In 2021, she reunited with the cast of “Friends” for a special reunion event. Sadly, in October 2023, Matthew Perry passed away due to an overdose of ketamine.

In the upcoming Netflix series titled “No Good Deed,” which debuts on December 12th, Jennifer Aniston, known for her role in “Friends,” teams up with Ray Romano, another ’90s TV legend. This dark comedy, brought to life by Liz Feldman (creator of “Dead to Me”), revolves around three families competing for the same 1920s Spanish-style villa, each believing that the house will alleviate their individual issues. The ensemble cast also includes Linda Cardellini, Luke Wilson, Teyonah Parris, Abbi Jacobson, Poppy Liu, Denis Leary, and O-T Fagbenle. This series is available on Netflix, while “Friends” can be found streaming on Max. We’re all hoping for a sequel to the beloved film “Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion.
