As a cinephile with decades of film-watching under my belt and a particular fondness for strong female leads, I can’t help but feel thrilled about Lucy Hale’s upcoming projects, especially “White Mars.” Her journey from Aria Montgomery on Pretty Little Liars to battling evil forces in Antarctica is nothing short of captivating.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the talented Lucy Hale, recognized for her roles in “Pretty Little Liars” and “Truth or Dare”, is all set to star in an action-thriller titled “F*** Marry Kill”. Following this, she will be stepping into the shoes of a heroine, drawing upon her inner strength to confront malevolent forces in the chilling sci-fi thriller, “White Mars” set in Antarctica. Lucy Hale initially gained recognition for her portrayal of Aria Montgomery in “Pretty Little Liars”, and since then, has built a flourishing career in Hollywood. Apart from her role in “Truth or Dare”, she has also graced our screens in “Scream 4” and Blumhouse’s 2020 hit, “Fantasy Island”.
According to the deadline, the movie titled “White Mars” will be directed by Martin Owen (known for “Above The Below”), with a script written by Matt Mitchell, Vicki Sargent, and Roo Berry. Filming is set to commence shortly at Cinecittà Studios in Rome. Hale expressed her enthusiasm about the project’s start and shared her anticipation about portraying Sammie, the character she will bring to life.
The upcoming project titled “White Mars” promises an exhilarating psychological journey that I’m eagerly looking forward to filming at the Cinecittà studios in Rome. The narrative revolves around Sammie, a character who inspires me with her courage and fortitude. I can hardly contain my excitement as I prepare to work alongside Martin Owen, our talented cast, and the entire team to breathe life into this captivating tale.
White Mars Sounds Very Similar to John Carpenter’s The Thing
In White Mars, it seems that Ripley won’t just be the lone action protagonist Hale will utilize; she’ll likely need to draw upon some of Kurt Russell’s R.J. MacReady traits as well, given what we currently understand about the film. Remarkably, this storyline bears a striking resemblance to John Carpenter’s 1982 movie, The Thing, which was set in Antarctica and centered around a team of researchers engaged in a struggle against an alien entity.
The story unfolds at the secluded Aquila Research Station in Antarctica, where microbiologist Sammie (Hale) struggles to safeguard her colleagues against a malignant force that seeks their total annihilation.
It’s not surprising at all that “The Thing” has become a timeless genre masterpiece, despite its initial underperformance at the box office. Its impact is evident in the works of renowned directors like Guillermo del Toro, Quentin Tarantino, J.J. Abrams, and Neill Blomkamp. Even Edgar Wright of “Shaun of the Dead” fame has acknowledged its influence, going as far as to tell the New York Times that it’s one of the scariest movies he’s ever witnessed.
Although it’s unlikely that the movie White Mars will achieve the same acclaim as Carpenter’s film, the prospect of watching Hale in the lead role, demonstrating her martial arts skills and saving the day, promises to be an enjoyable experience. Given her versatile acting abilities, she deserves more recognition than she currently receives. With principal filming starting on November 11th, no release date has been announced yet; however, it’s expected that the movie will debut sometime in 2025.
