Prior to her role in “Kill Bill”, Lucy Liu made her mark on the big screen as part of the cast in the 2000 action movie “Charlie’s Angels“, which also featured Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore. Interestingly, Bill Murray played a supporting role in the remake of the original TV series, titled John Bosley. However, over recent years, there have been allegations of misconduct on set against Murray, with past colleagues now sharing their own experiences. Recently, Lucy Liu has joined this group by recalling an incident involving offensive language used by Murray during the filming of “Charlie’s Angels”.
As a movie enthusiast, I recently delved into an interview where Liu opened up about the long-standing gossip surrounding her disagreement with Murray during the filming of “Charlie’s Angels.” Previously, I had expressed disapproval over language Murray used that I considered “unforgivable and intolerable.” This prompted me to firmly address his inappropriate actions. Although I didn’t elaborate on the specific words he used, it’s evident that his behavior did not go unnoticed by me. Even as a budding actress, I didn’t flinch from speaking out against his conduct and safeguarding myself and others.
In any circumstance, I wouldn’t hesitate to act as I did. If something seems off, my instinct is usually to safeguard myself. This feeling of self-protection kicks in when I sense an injustice, and it’s something that’s always been a part of me.
It’s quite possible that Liu wasn’t the only individual associated with the “Charlie’s Angels” series who faced challenges working alongside Murray. Notably, he declined to rejoin the cast for the sequel, “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle,” and his clash with Liu has been a topic of discussion within industry circles for more than two decades. As one crew member recounted, during filming, Murray unexpectedly wrote new script pages and distributed them to the crew. This left everyone, including director McG, baffled. When Liu expressed his concerns, Murray retorted, “I don’t know what you’re complaining about. I gave you more lines. Look who you’re working with here. You’re on TV… and this is the big league.” To which, Liu reacted bluntly, “Go f* yourself, you ahole!
Bill Murray’s Previous On-Set Misconduct Allegation
2022 saw Billy Murray facing accusations of sexually harassing a female crew member while working on Aziz Ansari’s “Being Mortal.” As per the initial account, Murray placed himself astride the younger production assistant and forced a kiss through his COVID-19 safety mask. Subsequently, he resolved the lawsuit by compensating the victim with $100,000. Later in the same year, Murray publicly addressed these allegations and discussed the temporary halt in filming for “Being Mortal.
Initially, I made a joke that didn’t land as intended, causing some misunderstanding. To rectify the situation, the production company decided to investigate the issue thoroughly. As a result, they temporarily halted production. However, we are currently in discussions and working towards resolving our differences. The core problem seems to be about maintaining harmony between us. We both respect each other’s work and appreciate one another, but if trust and good relations aren’t established, there’s no benefit in continuing the project or collaborating further.
When news broke about the allegations, it was said that Searchlight Pictures and Ansari were brainstorming methods to resume filming for the movie, as they had already shot half of it. However, the production of Being Mortal has been postponed indefinitely until director Aziz Ansari decides to revisit the project and completely overhaul it to exclude Bill Murray’s character. It remains uncertain whether or not Being Mortal will ever be released, but one thing is becoming increasingly apparent — Lucy Liu may have been right all along.
