In the heart of the season one finale of MobLand, I found myself on the edge of my seat as Conrad exposed Maeve’s secret plot against him – it turns out she was the one who tipped off the cops about Archie’s buried corpse. The nail-biting dinner scene in episode 9 served as the climax we had all been waiting for, as Maeve and Conrad’s tension boiled over into a physical altercation. He wielded a shattered bottle, while she used her words like a steak knife to break him down. Unfortunately, their confrontation was cut short by an interruption, leaving their conflict unresolved.
In the investigation of the Harrigan, Maeve has emerged as a key person of interest due to her apparent collaboration with Richie Stevenson in the assassination of Seraphina, despite potentially jeopardizing her own son’s life. There’s speculation that Maeve may have been working for Richie within the Harrigan organization, particularly regarding London’s fentanyl operation. However, it has come to light that not only did she persuade her son Conrad to kill his longtime friend Archie (who turned out to not be involved with Richie), but she also made an anonymous tip to the police about Archie’s location and his eventual demise. Even after being married for six decades, Maeve and Conrad are not a harmonious couple by any means. In various instances within the world of MobLand, Conrad’s questionable past with women has been highlighted. For instance, Bella Harrigan was one of his associates when she was only 20 years old, while he was in his fifties and later married to Kevin. Maeve’s animosity towards Seraphina stems solely from the fact that she is a result of Conrad’s infidelity, being born from an affair many decades ago. There’s a possibility that there may be another son connected to Conrad, as Maeve has hinted at Kevin having an “other brother.
It appears that revealing Archie’s body and involving Richie in a plot to eliminate Seraphina were all part of Maeve’s strategy to destabilize her husband, Conrad, who is already precariously balanced. During their confrontation at the Harrigan dinner table, Maeve made it clear that Conrad’s rule is finished and that everyone recognizes this. Conrad is on a downward spiral and past his prime, and Maeve aims to push him further into decline until he reaches the bottom of that hill completely.

It appears that Maeve isn’t the cunning, manipulative figure she believes herself to be. Her strategies lack a clear purpose, and at times, her choices are puzzlingly irrational. For instance, she contacted Richie to inform him about Seraphina’s location, relying on the word of a man who had just assisted in the death of his wife, and trusting that he wouldn’t endanger her son, whom she also disclosed his whereabouts to. This behavior suggests either an unrealistic trust or an alarmingly risky attitude, but for Maeve, it might be a blend of both.

Maeve isn’t focused on ensuring the success of the Harrigan crime empire for future generations. Instead, she seems intent on causing disorder and bringing about Conrad’s fall. Regardless of the harm it might cause, this is a matter of indifference to her.
Why Did Eddie Tell Conrad About Maeve?
Eddie Fears Conrad More Than He Loves (Or Fears) Maeve
Episode 9 starts with Conrad confronting Eddie as he awoke, and although their conversation was not depicted, it’s evident that Eddie revealed Maeve’s schemes to Conrad. It seems likely that Conrad had some inkling or strong suspicions about Maeve before, but Eddie’s revelations provided the confirmation Conrad required. In essence, Eddie holds Conrad in greater fear than loyalty towards Maeve. Whether this assessment is accurate or not, Eddie perceives Conrad as the more hazardous of his two seemingly deranged grandparents, which allowed Conrad to extract the truth from him.
