Reflecting upon my journey in Bollywood, I find myself in awe of the remarkable women who have graced this industry with their talent and grace. Among them, Madhuri Dixit stands tall, like a beacon of light guiding me through the winding paths of stardom.
Manisha Koirala first appeared in Bollywood through Subhash Ghai’s 1991 film Saudagar, which frequently drew comparisons to Madhuri Dixit due to their similar appearances. In a recent conversation, Manisha revealed that she initially didn’t find the comparison particularly complimentary. However, after collaborating with Madhuri on Lajja and getting to know her better, Manisha acknowledged and admired Madhuri’s exceptional skill, expressing, “I finally realized the immense talent I was witnessing.
In her latest chat with ANI, Manisha Koirala confessed that she didn’t find previous comparisons to Madhuri Dixit particularly complimentary, but now she appreciates and feels proud of such comparisons instead.
She openly showed admiration for Madhuri’s charm, elegance, and integrity, referring to her as someone she holds in high esteem and respect. Looking back at the initial phases of her career, Manisha confessed that she was quite a rebel, preferring to blaze her own trail instead of heeding others’ suggestions.
Yet, many years had passed since then, and when she acted alongside Madhuri Dixit in the 2001 crime drama Lajja directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, she found herself more open to the experience.
She mentioned that by the time they performed together in the unforgettable song “Badi Mushkil,” she had grown older, gained perspective, and recognized what a humble, gifted, and attractive person Madhuri was.
In the end, Manisha Koirala disclosed that Dixit was instrumental in securing her initial breakthrough in Bollywood.
Koirala voiced her appreciation for the ‘Dhak Dhak’ girl, praising her as extraordinary. It was Madhuri who introduced her to director Subhash Ghai following her appearance in a photo shoot conducted by Rakesh Shrestha.
In my understanding, following Koirala’s lead, the actress herself proposed that Mr. Ghai give me a chance in the film Saudagar. This prompted me to ask Mr. Shrestha for Koirala’s photo to present to him.
Koirala shared that her time spent working on Saudagar was a positive one, yet admitted she was inexperienced and somewhat green, as she had recently graduated from high school.
In her own words, the actress from “Dil Se” admitted to experiencing apprehension and a sense of inadequacy, preferring to keep her distance from colleagues on set as she was relatively new to both life and the film industry.
Three years following her initial appearance, Koirala took over the role from Madhuri Dixit in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 1994 romantic drama set in a historical context, titled “1942: A Love Story.
Personally speaking, I can hardly contain my excitement as I’ve just been part of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s captivating series “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.” Sharing the screen with the talented Sonakshi Sinha and Richa Chadha, among others, in key roles is an honor beyond words. This professional venture promises to be nothing short of extraordinary!
