  • HVILINA’s Universum Cosmographia is a 3D planetarium watch blending medieval star maps with modern horology
  • Limited to 500 pieces per colorway, the watch is available for pre-order now and is set to release in November 2025

The latest creation from HVILINA, named Universum Cosmographia, is a watch that elegantly combines traditional astronomy from past times with contemporary horology. Drawing on inspiration from old star maps of the Middle Ages and modern planetary research, this timepiece showcases a three-dimensional planetarium and a GMT disc designed in the style of an 9th-century celestial chart. Working together with Professor Richard Kerner, a physicist and expert in medieval cartography from Sorbonne University, this project merges ancient cosmic perspectives with contemporary ingenuity.

The watch is encased in a sleek stainless steel exterior, featuring an updated bezel and back. It boasts sapphire glass on either side for durability and has a 50-meter waterproof feature. Inside, a detailed 3D model of our Solar System is intricately designed, with miniature planets seeming to float effortlessly in space. Guilloche engraving embellishes the multi-layered dial, giving it a sense of cosmic depth and motion.

Overhead, a revolving disc showcases a medieval star chart carved into it, revealing itself through an ornate opening. As time passes, Latin labels of zodiac constellations scroll out in a 24-hour loop, with alternating light and dark zones indicating day and night.

The device is driven by the Miyota 9075 Premium automatic mechanism, offering GMT functionality, a 42-hour reserve, and an accuracy of -10 to +30 seconds daily. The rotor of this movement is etched with trans-Neptunian objects, such as the oval-shaped dwarf planet Haumea, further emphasizing its celestial theme.

This watch, called Universum Cosmographia, comes in four unique colors and each one is produced only 500 times. It includes a quick-release rubber strap that can also be swapped for leather, personalized numbering, or a custom GMT disc displaying your zodiac sign as an additional feature. At €400 EUR ($461 USD), you can pre-order it now on HVILINA’s online store. The watch will officially launch in November 2025.
