Last December, Yash Raj Films announced the third installment of the Mardaani series, titled Mardaani 3. This crime thriller will see the actress returning to play the fearless police officer, Shivani Shivaji Roy. Recently, it’s been disclosed that the actress has already begun filming for this movie.
According to a recent report by Mid-day, Rani Mukerji commenced filming for Mardaani 3 on March 26, 2025, at the Golden Tobacco factory in Vile Parle. The production team stayed there for a week and filmed various scenes featuring the actress.
This week, it was disclosed that the filming of the movie moved to Yash Raj Studios in Andheri. Some key fight sequences for the cop-drama film will be filmed there. A source close to the production shared that Abhiraj has planned some crucial action scenes during this phase, and the current shots being taken are vital to the storyline.
In a new twist for the Mardaani series, the upcoming third installment is set to delve deeper into relatable themes. As for who will portray the villain, the filmmakers have chosen to keep that detail under wraps for now.
A year ago, in December, on the anniversary of Mardaani 2’s release, the creators formally announced the third installment of the movie with a poster. The caption stated, “#TheWaitIsOver! Rani Mukerji reprises her role as the formidable Shivani Shivaji Roy in #Mardaani3. Scheduled for release in 2026.” Additionally, it was unveiled that Aditya Chopra would produce the movie under the YRF label and Abhiraj Minawala would be directing it.
In her initial statement at the time of the announcement, Rani gleefully shared her anticipation and joy for commencing the film shoot in April 2025. She declared that it’s always a privilege to don the police uniform and portray a character that has earned her affection. Moreover, she expressed her pride in playing this spirited cop once more in Mardaani 3 as a tribute to all the unacknowledged, courageous, self-sacrificing officers who work diligently day in and day out to ensure our safety.
