As a seasoned Marvel fan with over two decades of comics and cinematic universe under my belt, I can confidently say that the next few years are shaping up to be an epic ride! The upcoming releases, especially “Avengers: Doomsday,” have me absolutely thrilled!

During the Marvel Studios panel in Hall H, Blade was noticeably absent as President Kevin Feige unveiled details about the upcoming MCU film, Captain America: Brave New World set to hit theaters on February 14, 2025. Also revealed were Thunderbolts*, Fantastic Four: First Steps, and major updates for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled for May 2027.

Avengers: Doomsday Was the Most Shocking Comic-Con Newsmaker

As a die-hard Marvel fan, I can’t help but get pumped up about the news that dropped at 2024’s San Diego Comic-Con – Robert Downey Jr. is back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! The excitement was palpable, and it wasn’t long before Disney revised their film release schedule to make room for RDJ’s return in a movie titled Avengers: Doomsday. Previously, we had been eagerly anticipating Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, but with Iron Man back in the game, nothing could be more thrilling!

Additionally, just as fans were taken aback, so were other MCU veterans when Robert Downey Jr., during his appearance on the stage at comic-con, declared that he would take on the role of Doctor Doom. In a conversation on the Bingeworthy podcast (as reported by The Playlist), Brie Larson, who portrays Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers), expressed her surprise.

I’d like to make it crystal clear. I recently met up with Kevin Feige, and it felt as if it were just yesterday. However, he never mentioned anything about a event at Comic-Con! Absolutely nothing along those lines was discussed!

Similarly, Jeremy Renner, the actor portraying Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), wasn’t aware that RDJ’s character was in trouble. In a conversation with Us Weekly, Renner, who has been playing Clint Barton since 2011’s Thor, revealed:

It turns out, we’re quite close friends. Yet, he never mentioned a thing to me, not even in our group chat with the Avengers family. When I got online and saw all the messages, I couldn’t believe it! I was like, “What is this? You’ve been keeping this secret from us all along?” But honestly, I’m thrilled about it; I can hardly contain my excitement!

As a diehard fan, I’m thrilled at the possibility of catching Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Doctor Doom before the grand release of “Avengers: Doomsday.” According to Jeff Sneider, a trusted Hollywood insider on The John Campea Show, there’s a strong likelihood that Downey Jr. will make a cameo appearance in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” either midway through or during the credits. This speculation comes straight from Campea’s perspective.
