Max’s Pretty Little Liars Reboot Canceled After Two Seasons

As a seasoned critic with over three decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the cancellation of “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin” has left me feeling rather conflicted. On one hand, I am always sad to see a well-crafted series come to an end, especially one as intriguing and engaging as this reboot. On the other hand, I can’t help but feel a sense of déjà vu – it seems that the fate of Liars everywhere is to be forever haunted by mysterious villains and premature cancellations.

The reboot of “Pretty Little Liars,” titled “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin,” has been terminated by Max after only two seasons on air. This show started streaming in 2022 and its second season, known as “Summer School,” was released in May and ended in June. Despite receiving positive feedback from both critics and viewers during its short run, this reboot marks the end of a series that drew inspiration from the highly successful original Freeform series that premiered in 2010 and ran for seven seasons. In a statement to Variety, Max announced:

Although Max has decided against producing a third season for ‘Pretty Little Liars’, we are deeply appreciative to our co-creators Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring, along with Warner Bros. Television, for bringing this fresh take on the Liars back to the screen. Together they’ve introduced a new set of characters who join forces to confront the latest menacing figure haunting Millwood. Their innovative and contemporary approach – blended with the exceptional skills of our cast and crew – gave the series a thrilling, horror-infused perspective that honored its original roots in Rosewood.

As a movie reviewer, I’d say:

Pretty Little Liars: Summer Camp Leaves Unanswered Questions

The final season of the show “Pretty Little Liars” concluded with a lingering enigma when a band of girls wearing masks like the original characters mysteriously appeared in Millwood High’s corridors. Sadly, this storyline will remain unresolved as viewers will not get to witness it unfold. Moreover, there’s even more for fans to lament over. We won’t get to see any of the original Liars (Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, Lucy Hale, Shay Mitchell, and Sasha Pieterse) engage with the newer group of Liars. Despite no definitive plans being revealed about their comeback, fans were eager for a collaboration between the two sets of characters.

Max’s television series “Pretty Little Liars” featured Bailee Madison playing Imogen, Chandler Kinney portraying Tabby, Zaria in the role of Faran, Malia Pyles as Mouse, Maia Reficco as Noa, Mallory Bechtel as Kelly, Sharon Leal as Sidney, Alex Aiono as Shawn, Jordan Gonzalez as Ash, and Elias Kacavas as Greg. Madison is set to collaborate again with her “The Strangers: Prey at Night” director Johannes Roberts for the horror movie titled “The Pool”. Kinney, who is currently participating in “Dancing with the Stars”, will reprise her role as Willa in Disney’s upcoming production “Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires.

Originally, “Pretty Little Liars” produced a spin-off called “Ravenswood” in 2013 that focused on the character Caleb played by Tyler Blackburn. After “Pretty Little Liars” ended in 2017, another spin-off titled “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists” premiered on Freeform in 2019. This series featured Sofia Carson, Sydney Park, and Eli Brown along with some original cast members, Janel Parrish and Sasha Pieterse. Critics highly praised the show. However, unfortunately, both shows only lasted for one season each.
