Her career journey was quite a thrilling ride, as she missed out on the Oscar-winning film, Slumdog Millionaire, and faced struggles due to a shortage of projects. Actress Nushrratt Bharucha, who became well-known for portraying a bothersome girlfriend in films such as Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety and the Pyaar Ka Punchnama series, actually began her career on television before making her film debut in 2006 with Jai Santoshi Maa.
Beyond the films previously mentioned, she achieved prominence by starring in movies such as Love Sex Aur Dhokha, Dream Girl, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar (cameo), Ram Setu, Akaash Vani, and many others. She has expanded her career horizons by diving into digital content, featuring in the supernatural thriller Chhorii and Janhit Mein Jaari.
In an interview with IANS in 2018, Nushrratt disclosed that she was among the contenders for the female protagonist role in Slumdog Millionaire, a film that ultimately starred Frieda Pinto.
The director, Danny Boyle, and his team conveyed to me that I wasn’t cast because my appearance didn’t match the stereotype of someone from a slum area. They acknowledged my acting skills but stated that my physical appearance was not aligned with the character they had in mind.
During an interview with Rediff.com back in 2019, the actress confessed that she hadn’t received any intriguing job opportunities following the success of Pyaar Ka Punchnama. However, she went on to take up the role in Akash Vani afterwards, but that film unfortunately flopped at the box office.
For two long years, the actress found herself confined at home, battling severe depression. She barely ventured out and had little interest in watching movies. It was hard for her to comprehend why her movie failed so miserably, a blow that affected her deeply. However, she later took on the role of PKP 2, which was successful, despite her having been involved with some less-than-stellar films that also tanked.
In the career sphere, Nushrratt’s highly anticipated supernatural movie titled Chhorii 2, costarring Soha Ali Khan, will be premiering on Amazon Prime Video on April 11, 2025.
