As a long-time fan of the Metal Slug franchise, I must say that I am absolutely thrilled with the release of Metal Slug Tactics! The game has managed to maintain the essence of the original while introducing a fresh, tactical twist that keeps me hooked.
Veteran video game enthusiasts are well-acquainted with the classic 2D action platformer known as “Metal Slug”. Although the series has taken a backseat in recent times, it’s made a comeback with the launch of the eagerly awaited strategic title, “Metal Slug Tactics”.
The game features returning characters from the classic Metal Slug series, each boasting unique skills that enhance the team setup. With multiple strategies for victory in Tactics, let’s explore the strengths of each character, so you can understand which ones align with your preferred playing style.
The playable characters are as follows:
As a devout fan, I’d say: I’m Marco Rossi, the trailblazer of the Metal Slug series. As the primary character, I’ve got a nice blend of abilities that make me quite versatile. While I might not deal as much damage as some other characters, I truly shine when working together with others, creating some impressive team attacks.
Tarma Roving – Similar to Marco, Tarma originates from the initial game and was assigned for Player 2. In the Tactics version, they’ve crafted Tarma as an expert in maneuverability during battles, a skill that’s particularly useful given that many of his weapons have limited range.
Fio Germi – One of the early characters introduced in the game, Fio in Tactics excels as a support character, specializing in ranged attacks and keeping enemies at bay. Many players consider her an excellent choice for beginners, making her a good pick for those just starting to master the game.
Eri Kasamoto – As the final character from the vintage lineup in Tactics, Eri is known for her expertise in scaling terrain. Moreover, her ability to deploy bombs allows her to be quite effective, as these explosives can often bypass the elevation of the enemy.
Nadia Cassel is reportedly challenging for beginners to work with due to her complex nature. As a tech specialist, she has the ability to bring various gadgets into play during missions, and she’s known for being highly mobile as well.
As Trevor Spacey, I’ve got an edge in this gaming world – My unique talent lies in manipulating enemies with advanced nanotechnology, making them turn on each other. It’s a game-changing skill that keeps my opponents off balance, and the low energy costs for my abilities mean I can keep attacking without running out of steam.
Ralf Jones is not particularly agile in combat, as he has a limited range for his attacks. However, he’s capable of inflicting significant damage with his powerful Vulcan Punch. His defense isn’t top-notch, but he can transform that weakness into high-impact damage instead.
Clark’s Key Talent in the Game: Clark excels at shifting other characters’ positions, making him a valuable asset in strategic games. Initially, he may not possess numerous skills, but as the game progresses, he proves to be an exceptional team supporter with increased experience.
Leona Heidern – Character with mobility abilities, Leona can create duplicates of herself across the battlefield, confusing opponents while she skillfully dodges them. Mastering her takes time, but her supportive role is impressive and awe-inspiring.
To date, Metal Slug Tactics has been receiving favorable feedback from gamers. Remarkably, despite its shift in genre, it’s being praised for bringing back many elements that made the original Metal Slug so distinctive and enjoyable.
Metal Slug Tactics is now available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
