Michael Cudlitz is Ready to Return to AMC’s Walking Dead Universe as Abraham

As a devoted fan, I’ve been through the apocalyptic wringer with “The Walking Dead” and its spin-offs. The return of favorite characters has been a delight, but there’s one character we haven’t seen back yet – Abraham Ford, played by the charismatic Michael Cudlitz. While Abraham met his demise at the hands of Negan, it seems that Cudlitz isn’t done with the role just yet.

For approximately two years now, “The Walking Dead” on AMC has been off the air, and since then, we’ve enjoyed numerous spin-offs from the hit post-apocalyptic series like “Dead City”, “The Ones Who Live”, and “Daryl Dixon”, where many beloved characters reprised their roles from the original show. One character we haven’t seen return yet is Abraham Ford, who joined the wasteland crew in Season 4 and stayed until Season 7. Played by Michael Cudlitz, the former U.S. Army Sergeant perished at the hands of Negan, but it doesn’t mean that Cudlitz has finished with the role. There’s still a possibility we might see him return.

In a chat with ScreenRant about the finale of Superman & Lois where he played Lex Luthor, the possibility of revisiting The Walking Dead was brought up. Cudlitz expressed his enthusiasm about potentially coming back to the series if given a chance, mainly because he enjoyed working with such a fantastic cast so much.

Absolutely, without a doubt! We’ve discussed this matter before, and let me tell you, I hold a deep affection for that world. The experience I had there was exceptional, possibly the most enjoyable set experience I’ve ever had, or have had since then. It was an incredible universe to be a part of, and at one stage, discussions were held about something related to The Walking Dead universe. I believe they referred to it as “The Tales of The Walking Dead.” They produced six episodes in this style, almost like the Black Mirror series but with an alternate universe twist.

According to Cudlitz, the series titled “Tales of the Walking Dead” debuted in 2022. This was a six-episode anthology that took place within the same universe as the main franchise. However, it occasionally broke the rules to provide episodes with time loops and unexpected conclusions much like “Black Mirror“. The spin-off received mostly positive feedback, although its run was relatively short. Yet, it seems that this specific format may not be gone for good.

How Can Abraham Return to The Walking Dead if He’s Been Killed?

Back in April 2023, I’m excitedly looking forward to diving into more chilling tales with More Tales from the Walking Dead Universe. This spin-off is poised to carry on the anthological essence of its predecessor, weaving fresh and familiar narratives around new and established characters. One such character could potentially be Abraham, played by the talented Michael Cudlitz.

In simpler terms, one narrative they possess seems to be a tale reminiscent of Abraham’s origins, which they have discussed before. If they presented this idea to me at the right moment, and everything aligned, I would certainly participate without hesitation. These people are great, I had a fantastic experience working with them.

Since it was announced last year, there hasn’t been much progress on the series. This is because a WGA strike started the following month, with SAG-AFTRA joining them in July. Now that Hollywood is back in action, let’s hope for updates about The Walking Dead soon, which would be great news for both Cudlitz and fans who are eagerly waiting to see more.
