MIPCOM: ‘The Traitors’ Producer All3Media Eyes Scripted Expansion

As a seasoned gamer who has navigated countless virtual worlds and battled formidable bosses, I find myself drawn to the exciting news of All3Media‘s foray into the realm of scripted production. With a rich history of creating engaging reality content that keeps me hooked for hours on end, it’s intriguing to see them venturing into new territories.

The unscripted media titan All3Media, renowned for creating worldwide reality sensations like the Emmy-winning series The Traitors and Netflix’s Squid Game: The Challenge, is eager to expand its collection with more captivating drama productions.

At the MIPCOM international television market on Monday, All3Media CEO Jane Turton announced that the company, now owned by RedBird IMI following a $1.45 billion purchase by Jeff Zucker and Gerry Cardinale, is actively seeking scripted production companies as part of its growth strategy.

According to Turton, there are areas where we need improvement and missing pieces in our collection. To address this, we’ve significantly increased our investment in these areas and will continue to do so. In fact, the upcoming announcements you’ll hear from us over the next few months or years might involve many new investments in scripted content, units, and labels.

All3Media is well-acquainted with scripted productions, boasting credits through its subsidiaries like Phoebe Waller Bridge’s hit show “Fleabag” and the long-running British series “Call the Midwife.” Additionally, the company holds a share in Media Res, the studio responsible for the Apple TV+ shows “The Morning Show” and “Pachinko.

Currently, scripted TV is facing challenging times as broadcasters and streaming platforms globally are reducing their budgets and taking fewer risks with drama and comedy productions. However, Turton points out that All3Media’s extensive size and production capabilities – the company operates in six countries – offer economies of scale that help mitigate the inherent risk associated with these projects.

She stated that scripted content stays relevant due to its high-level complexity. However, she emphasized the importance of continually enhancing your prospects for success with the help of your established fanbase and robust distribution network.
