As a music enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of the industry over the years, I am absolutely thrilled to see Jody Gerson being honored at the Clive Davis pre-Grammy gala. Her journey from joining Universal Music Publishing Group in 2015 to becoming the first female chairman of a global music company and CEO of a major music publisher is nothing short of inspiring.
Jody Gerson, head of Universal Music Publishing Group, will receive an honor at the Clive Davis pre-Grammy event.
On Wednesday, it was announced that the Recording Academy and Davis will pay tribute to a long-standing executive by presenting him with the 2025 Grammy Salute to Industry Icons honor at The Beverly Hilton on February 1, which is the eve of the 2025 Grammy Awards. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Davis’ much-anticipated event.
Gerson began working for UMPG back in 2015. Since then, she’s been associated with numerous prominent musicians such as Adele, Bee Gees, Bad Bunny, Justin Bieber, Drake, Billie Eilish, Elton John, Kendrick Lamar, Post Malone, the Prince estate, Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, SZA and The Weeknd. Moreover, she has overseen UMPG’s purchase of several significant catalogs, including those belonging to Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond, and Sting.
Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, praised Jody as a motivational leader who consistently advocates for honesty and diversity in all her actions, and referred to her as a pioneering executive. He stated that she has provided opportunities and boosted the careers of numerous renowned songwriters worldwide, all while being a strong advocate for women in music. We are delighted to organize an exceptional event that not only honors Jody’s significant influence but also commemorates the gala’s impressive 50-year anniversary.
Gerson holds a significant position, serving on the Executive Management Board of Universal Music Group. Furthermore, she made history by becoming the initial female chairman at a global music corporation and the first woman to bear the title CEO of a prominent publishing house for music. She oversees operations in 40 countries, with 850 employees working across 48 offices.
Jody Gerson is one of the most distinguished figures in the music industry, and I’m delighted that she will receive this year’s Salute to Industry Icons award,” Davis said. “Over the years, Jody has shown a trailblazing dedication to championing songwriters across various genres, and her relentless advocacy for diversity, equality, and fairness in the music business is commendable. The industry and artists are indeed fortunate to have a leader with such deep wisdom and fervor guiding us.
