Nate Bargatze Thinks Kenan Thompson Has Been on ‘SNL’ for 50 Years in New Promo

As a long-time fan of Saturday Night Live (SNL), I can’t help but feel a sense of awe and admiration for Nate Bargatze as he gears up to host the show again, especially given his charmingly naive confusion over Kenan Thompson‘s age and SNL’s 50th season milestone. It’s not every day that you get to witness such a delightful blend of humor and humility on display!

In a fresh promo for the forthcoming episode, comedian Nate Bargatze expresses bewilderment over Kenan Thompson’s age and the 50th anniversary of Saturday Night Live.

This week, the NBC sketch comedy show enters its 50th season’s second episode, following last weekend’s hosting by Jean Smart. Comedian Bargatze takes the stage, and he’ll be accompanied by musical guests, Coldplay.

Greetings, I’m Nate Bargatze, and I’m the host for this week’s Saturday Night Live, with Coldplay as our musical guests. As Thompson exclaims, “It’s season 50, let’s make it great!

In this instance, Bargatze inquires of the long-standing cast member, “Kenan, you’ve been part of the show for a full half century now. That’s incredible! What are your thoughts on that?” or simply, “Bargatze queries Kenan about his 50-year stint on the show: ‘How does it feel?’

A perplexed Thompson attempts to set the record straight by stating he hasn’t been on SNL for that extended period, but the future host interrupts, “I suppose you were around 10 when you began? Goodness, you seem fantastic for your years!

“You think I’m 60 years old?” Thompson, who is actually 46, asks.

Later on, an SNL cast member remarks, “This is what I adore about SNL – people from diverse global locations uniting to stage a performance.” Bargatze then reveals he’s an American, but Coldplay’s lead singer Chris Martin clarifies, “We hail from beyond America,” as they represent a British band.

However, when Bargatze queries Thompson about his origin, he replies playfully, “Well, I hail from just beyond that door over there. Indeed, born and bred… my entire life… right here, [studio] 8H.” Although Thompson hasn’t been a part of SNL for half a century, he holds the record as the longest-serving cast member since joining in 2003.

On Saturday night at 11:30 PM Eastern Time and 8:30 PM Pacific Time, you can catch SNL on NBC, or stream it live on Peacock. This upcoming weekend will see the return of Bargatze to Studio 8H, as he made his debut as a host last October with Foo Fighters providing the music.
