Amanda Palmer is speaking out on accusations against her and her ex-husband, Neil Gaiman.
Neil Gaiman, renowned for creating works such as ‘Coraline’ and ‘The Sandman’, among others that have been adapted into movies and TV series, found himself facing a lawsuit on Monday. Scarlett Pavlovich, his former nanny who resided with the family, including their son, accused him of sexual assault, human trafficking, and battery. According to Pavlovich’s allegations, while working as their nanny, Gaiman inappropriately assaulted her on multiple occasions. Furthermore, she claimed that Palmer, whom she says was aware of past instances of abuse, knew about these incidents but did not intervene.
Last Friday, Palmer posted on Instagram addressing the accusations with a written message: “I appreciate your ongoing respect for my request for privacy during these challenging times, as I strive to safeguard my young son’s privacy.
Palmer went on to say, “Focusing on this matter, I won’t address the particular accusations levied against me right now, other than to state my denial of those claims and assure you that I will respond appropriately at the appropriate time. My sympathies are with all survivors.
The alleged incidents began in 2022, as stated in the lawsuit. It was claimed that Palmer asked Pavlovich to babysit, which evolved into Gaiman instructing her to take a bath, followed by him joining. According to the lawsuit, “Gaiman then inserted his fingers into Scarlett’s rectum.” Despite her objections, he allegedly tried to penetrate her rectum with his penis. Furthermore, she asserted that he anally raped and choked her.
As per the court case, it was stated that Palmer disclosed to Scarlett, for the very first time, that over a dozen women – among them some ex-employees – had earlier confided in Palmer about inappropriate sexual experiences they had with Gaiman.
In the past month, following a magazine cover story in New York where several women accused him of sexual assault and misconduct, Gaiman spoke out regarding these allegations. He stated that while some of the accounts are completely fabricated, others have been significantly exaggerated and no longer reflect reality. “I am ready to acknowledge any mistakes I may have made,” he wrote in a blog post. “I refuse to disregard the truth, and I can’t accept being characterized as someone I am not, nor can I admit to actions I did not perform.
