As a long-time fan of both the “FBI” and “One Chicago” franchises, I’ve grown accustomed to seeing familiar faces pop up across the shows as they exist in the same universe. However, I must admit that I was taken aback when I heard Jesse Lee Soffer would be joining “FBI: International” as a new character despite his previous role as Detective Jay Halstead on “Chicago P.D.”
Following Luke Kleintank’s departure from “FBI: International,” the show’s creators set out to find a suitable replacement for the Fly Team. Recently, it was revealed that Jesse Lee Soffer, who gained fame as Detective Jay Halstead on “Chicago P.D” until his exit during Season 10, would be joining the CBS procedural. At first, little information was available about Soffer’s role, other than the fact that he wouldn’t be reprising Jay. Now, more details have emerged, and I’m relieved to learn that this new character won’t simply be a copy of the Chicago cop character Soffer previously portrayed.
In a fascinating crossover, the FBI and One Chicago franchises share the same storyline as confirmed when Tracy Spiridakos, a former co-star of Jesse Lee Soffer, returned to reprise her role as Hailey Upton in the FBI series. Excitingly for fans, Soffer’s character from the Fly Team will be entirely new. According to TVLine, the actor is slated to portray Supervisory Special Agent Wesley “Wes” Mitchell. Portrayed as both charming and unconventional, Wes uses unorthodox tactics but possesses sharp intuition. His determination to attain justice knows no bounds.
As a gamer, I’ve come across Jay before – a veteran with a serious demeanor and an uncanny confidence that borders on cockiness. He sticks to the rules most of the time, but when circumstances demand it, he isn’t above bending them a bit. The only thing Jay and Wes share is their unwavering pursuit of justice. I can’t help but wonder what fresh energy Wes will bring to the Fly Team. While he may not completely fill the void left by Forrester in my mind, I’m excited to explore this new dynamic and see how it unfolds in the game.

“Joining Forces: How Jesse Lee Soffer’s Past Character Fits Perfectly in FBI: International’s Season 4″
Although it may seem unusual that Jesse Lee Soffer portrays a new character in FBI: International, which shares the same continuity as Chicago P.D., this isn’t an unprecedented move. fellow One Chicago star Colin Donnell transitioned from playing doctor Connor Rhodes for the initial five seasons of Chicago Med to appearing as NSA agent Brian Lange in the final episodes of FBI: International’s third season.
It’s currently uncertain how Jesse Lee Soffer will portray his new character given that we haven’t seen it yet, despite the recent release of the character description. I’m excited to find out how Wes interacts with the rest of the team. I have faith in Soffer and the producers, as they’ve successfully integrated bold cast changes in the past. Let’s hope that Wes brings a significant difference from Jay Halstead as promised.
I’m thrilled to share that I won’t have to wait much longer to witness the first appearance of Supervisory Special Agent Wesley Mitchell on FBI: International! The new season kicks off on Tuesday, October 15 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS as per the 2024 TV schedule. For those who can’t wait, you can even stream Season 3 now with a Paramount+ subscription or for free on Pluto TV.
