As a longtime TV enthusiast and someone who’s seen more than a few seasons worth of shows, I can confidently say that this week is shaping up to be a veritable goldmine for streaming content! From gripping true crime tales to superhero sagas and even a return to the world of Frasier, there’s something for everyone.
Sometimes, discovering fresh content on popular streaming platforms can be akin to experiencing a bountiful feast followed by a long famine. In truth, certain weeks may leave us struggling to find worthy content due to unremarkable new releases or lackluster upcoming titles on services like Netflix and Hulu. However, there are instances when the content pipeline is overflowing with quality offerings, and fortunately, this week happens to be one of those abundant moments.
This week, several high-profile new series are premiering across many well-known streaming services. Notably, popular franchises like Marvel and DC will be releasing their latest series just a day apart. However, if comic books aren’t your preferred genre, there are still numerous other options available to enjoy.
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story- September 19 (Netflix)
In the first season of Netflix’s “Monster,” the narrative unfolded around Jeffrey Dahmer, a man whose tale later became one of the most popular streaming series and was even nominated for several Emmy Awards. Subsequently, another limited series delves into the notorious story of Erik and Lyle Menendez, two siblings who allegedly killed their parents, yet they asserted it was in self-defense.

Agatha All Along September 18 (Disney+)
One standout reason for maintaining a Disney+ subscription is the groundbreaking Marvel series, “WandaVision,” which continues to shine. A significant factor behind its success is its innovative production and aesthetic, but another key element was Kathryn Hahn’s exceptional portrayal of Agatha Harkness. Now, Hahn moves into the limelight as the protagonist in the new series, “Agatha All Along.” This fresh show follows Harkness on her journey to regain her powers by traversing the Witch’s Road.

The Penguin – September 19 (Max)
It’s now been two years since moviegoers welcomed the latest version of Batman onto the big screen, and although updates about “The Batman 2” are yet to come, if you’re a Max subscriber, there’s at least a fresh series set in that universe that promises to be nearly as entertaining. Colin Ferrell reprises his role from the movie in “The Penguin”, a narrative centered around one of Batman’s most iconic villains from his Rogue’s Gallery.

Child Star – September 17 (Hulu)
The recently released documentary titled “Quiet On Set” offers an eye-opening exploration of child stardom, highlighting instances where children were mistreated. In contrast, “Child Star” shares the journey from within, narrated by individuals who have trodden that path themselves. Notably, Demi Lovato has produced this new documentary and conducted interviews with several well-known child stars such as Drew Barrymore and Christina Ricci.

Frasier Season 2 September 19 (Paramount+)
For forty years, Kelsey Grammer has been portraying Dr. Frasier Crane on the sitcom “Cheers”, and following that show’s conclusion, Frasier received his own successful spinoff. Now, there’s a spinoff of the spinoff available for viewing with a Paramount+ subscription, as it enters its second season. This new installment boasts several guest stars from Frasier’s past, including Perri Gilpin reprising her role as Roz.
I’ve got to say, that’s a strong lineup of content for the week, and since these series are releasing on a weekly basis, it seems like fans will have plenty to keep them hooked for quite a while! With summer and September winding down, it’s safe to say we can anticipate a whole lot of exciting Halloween-themed content as we approach the spooky season!
