As a seasoned gamer and film enthusiast with a penchant for dark comedy and horror, I can hardly contain my excitement over the upcoming release of “Get Away.” Having grown up watching Nick Frost‘s iconic roles in “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz,” it’s truly thrilling to see him stepping into new creative territories as a writer, producer, and lead actor.
In the United Kingdom, the movie “Get Away,” a fresh blend of horror and comedy, will be unveiled by Sky, which is owned by Comcast. This film features the talented Nick Frost (known for “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz”) as both actor, writer, and producer. The directorial role is taken on by Steffen Haars, renowned for his works such as “New Kids Turbo” and “Krazy House.
XYZ Films took care of financing, production, and global distribution of the movie ‘Get Away’, a project they worked on with Wayward Entertainment. Starting January 10, 2025, Sky Original Film will debut this film exclusively on their pay-TV service, Sky Cinema.
Julia Stuart, head of original films at Sky, shared that ‘Get Away‘ marks Nick’s debut as both writer and actor in a film, and the fervor he has for the project is evident throughout every aspect, making it truly unique. The movie embodies all the features fans adore about Nick’s dark comedy horrors – hearty laughter, unexpected twists, and over-the-top gore, plus an exceptional cast from the UK. We are confident that viewers will relish joining this family for a chilling vacation on this killer holiday trip.
The film revolves around the Smith family’s trip to a peaceful Swedish island named Svälta for a relaxing holiday, but their tranquil journey takes an unexpected twist as they stumble upon the island being home to a notorious serial killer. As depicted in the synopsis, “The Smith family, eager to unwind on the secluded Swedish island of Svälta, are warned by the locals on the mainland to steer clear of it, particularly during the Karantan festival.” However, the determined four-person family, yearning for a break, defy the warnings and board the ferry.
Frost acts alongside Aisling Bea (from the series “This Way Up”), Sebastian Croft (known for “Heartstopper”) and debutante Maisie Ayres, who has been seen in “Criminal Record”.
Nick Spicer, Aram Tertzakian, and Maxime Cottray from XYZ Films teamed up with John Hegeman from Wayward Entertainment, Lee Kim from Resolute Films, and Frost for the production of a film titled Big Safari. Richard Kondal served as co-producer, while Vince Totino from Wayward, Patrick Fischer from Creativity Capital, Nate Bolotin and Pip Ngo from XYZ, along with Stuart and Laura Grange from Sky Original Film, took on executive producer roles.
Frost expressed that the opportunity to present the movie on Sky’s Originals seemed almost too wonderful to be real,” he stated. “It appears to be the ideal setting for cozying up with a massive dose of comedic horror – grab your popcorn and enjoy!
Frost is handled by the Independent Talent Group and Think Tank Management, while Haars is overseen by Peter Van Steemburg from XYZ Films.
The film titled “Get Away” made its first appearance at Fantastic Fest 2024 in September and is scheduled for a theatrical release in the U.S. on Dec. 6. It will then be available on AMC Networks’ horror streaming platform, Shudder, in 2025.
