Nushrratt Bharuccha expresses ‘hurt’ on Ananya Panday replacing her in Dream Girl 2: ‘Every other actor was…’

In the 2019 film “Dream Girl,” Nushrratt Bharuccha acted alongside Ayushmann Khurrana in a comedy drama. But when the sequel, “Dream Girl 2,” came out in 2023, she wasn’t part of the cast anymore; Ananya Panday took her place instead. Lately, Nushrratt shared her sentiments and acknowledged that it was painful for her when everyone else from the original cast was retained except her.

In a recent chat with Nayandeep Rakshit, I, Nushrratt Bharuccha, shared my experiences navigating Bollywood as an outsider. Talking about being swapped out for the sequel of my own film, I admitted it stung even deeper when I was excluded, especially since every other cast member remained the same except for the female lead. To me, that just wasn’t right or fair.

When asked if she resisted it, Nushrratt admitted that she didn’t. Instead, she expressed that there was no point in fighting something when she knew it wouldn’t make a difference. In her words, “Why fight? What am I supposed to say? ‘Why not me?’ They would reply, ‘Because we don’t need you.'” Furthermore, the actress shared that she couldn’t challenge someone else’s decisions.

Nushrratt Bharuccha shared that she chose not to abandon her own aspirations and instead, sought out opportunities to team up with individuals who were keen to work alongside her. She also highlighted the importance of being acknowledged by others for her efforts.

The actress from Chhorii 2 expressed, “What could possibly transpire if one were to bang their head against a wall? It would shatter.” In conclusion, she suggested creating an alternative opening or ventilation instead and proceeding through that.

In the summer of 2023, Dream Girl 2, helmed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, hit the screens. The film featured Ayushmann Khurrana in the dual role of Karam and Pooja, while Ananya Panday enlivened the character of his love interest, Pari.

Over the last few days, actress Nushrratt Bharuccha has been actively promoting her upcoming horror movie titled Chhorii 2. This sequel follows the 2021 supernatural film Chhorii and features a star-studded cast including Soha Ali Khan, Saurabh Goyal, Gashmeer Mahajani, Pallavi Ajay, Kuldeep Sareen, and Hardika Sharma. The movie is helmed by director Vishal Furia and made its debut on Amazon Prime Video on April 11, 2025.
