As a dedicated gamer and film enthusiast with a deep appreciation for historical dramas, I’m thrilled to hear that Steve McQueen’s “Blitz” has been chosen as the closing night film for the 2024 New York Film Festival. Mcqueen is known for his thought-provoking and visually stunning films, and I’ve been eagerly anticipating this latest addition to his body of work since its announcement.

During World War II, a film set in London amidst German air raids (blitzkrieg), is scheduled for its first screening in North America on October 10th. At Alice Tully Hall.
McQueen took charge of writing, directing, and producing the film “Blitz.” The story unfolds through the interconnected viewpoints of Rita (Ronan), a working-class single mother, and her 9-year-old son George (Heffernan). They find themselves separated amidst the chaos of a city under attack.
I’m excited to share that this upcoming film boasts an impressive star-studded cast, including Harris Dickinson, Benjamin Clementine, Kathy Burke, Paul Weller, Stephen Graham, Leigh Gill, Mica Ricketts, CJ Beckford, Alex Jennings, Joshua McGuire, Hayley Squires, Erin Kellyman, and Sally Messham. Notably, Steve McQueen produces through his Lammas Park banner, with additional production coming from Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title, Arnon and Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer of New Regency, Anita Overland, and Adam Somner. Mark your calendars for the film’s theatrical release on November 1, followed by its premiere on Apple TV+ on November 22.
McQueen expressed great joy, appreciation, and nostalgia as he returned to the New York Film Festival with “Blitz” for a memorable closing night experience. Previously, he had cherished various moments at the festival and connected deeply with New York audiences. He felt deeply grateful for this opportunity to come back once more.

McQueen’s film catalog has been well-represented at the festival with screenings of his debut work “Hunger,” as well as “Shame,” “12 Years a Slave,” and three out of five films from his anthology called “Small Axe.”
The 62nd New York Film Festival, organized by Film at Lincoln Center, will take place from September 27 to October 14.
