In recent years, Olivia Wilde has been quite daring on red carpets with bold, sheer fashion choices. Following Florence Pugh’s initiative to “free the nipple”, Wilde has also opted for transparent outfits at events like the Academy Museum Gala. Although she wasn’t nominated for an Oscar in 2025, she was invited to the Vanity Fair Oscars After Party. I found her dress to be absolutely stunning, with a delicate sheer quality that reminded me of the captivating style seen in the popular series “Daisy Jones and The Six“.
There were some more notable dressers out and about this weekend. Zoë Kravitz had on a cheeky dress in a style I’d never seen before. Megan Thee Stallion wore feather. Halle Bailey wore a red see-through corset dress. Bowen Yang had awesome embroidery on his own Oscars look (before coming onstage in his Wicked outfit). And Kim Kardashian turned heads in a little black dress one day before showing up in a pillow-y, structured look for the Vanity Fair party.
In contrast, Wilde opted neither for conventional nor radical fashion. Instead, she chose a charming cream dress with harmonious undergarments that looked both dainty and captivating on the red carpet.
Over the past few months, it seems like styles from the ’90s and 2000s have been especially popular, but as someone who appreciates vintage fashion, I was captivated by Olivia Wilde’s maxi dress with its ruffles and dotted details. In truth, a similar style caught my eye a couple of years ago while watching the series Daisy Jones and the Six. In that show, there’s an episode where Suki Waterhouse’s character, Karen, discovers she’s pregnant and confides in fellow Daisy Jones cast member Camila, wearing a sheer outfit.
In this instance, her black blouse evoked a flowing, polka-dotted aesthetic reminiscent of the style Wilde embodies.

Riley Keough often preferred the voluminous, retro ambiance that Wilde is employing here, and I must say, it really catches my eye. It stood out dramatically from the majority of gowns at this year’s red carpet events (and pre/post parties), and it’s the one I find myself pondering as I tackle my work week. Naturally, there will be numerous Oscars 2025 moments that we’ll all continue to discuss in the upcoming days. Which one was your favorite?
