2024 Was a Horrible Year for Superhero Movies on Rotten Tomatoes
Over the past few years, I’ve noticed a growing chorus of voices claiming that the superhero genre is on the wane. However, recent data has finally given us solid proof to back up this sentiment. The Marvel Cinematic Universe, in particular, has experienced an unprecedented surge in popularity over the last decade, transforming comic books, muscular actors sporting outlandish spandex, and uninspiring villains into must-haves for even the most casual of cinema enthusiasts. Despite this genre’s decline over the years, with studios seemingly more focused on financial gains than compelling narratives, many still held out hope that 2024 would mark a resurgence for superheroes. Even films like Deadpool and Wolverine, which raked in massive box office earnings, were not immune to criticism from the discerning few.
