Panchayat actress Neena Gupta believes it’s ‘a curse to be born a woman’; here’s why

Last year, Neena Gupta caused quite a stir online when her remarks on feminism being “unnecessary” went viral. More recently, the actress has been careful with her choice of words, expressing a desire for women to be strong within themselves. However, she also emphasized that being born as a woman can feel like a curse due to the social injustices and cruelty they often endure.

During an interview with Lilly Singh on her YouTube channel, Neena Gupta expressed that she aims to avoid any potentially contentious statements. She attributed misinterpretations of her words to social media, claiming they often take things out of context. Once more, Lilly inquired about Neena’s thoughts on feminism and if she wished to clarify or expand upon those views.

In reaction, the seasoned actress defined feminism as having inner strength. When pressed for her wishes for women in the nation today, the actress, expressing deep sadness, expressed that she felt it was impossible.

She expressed, “What I desire cannot be achieved. I long for their safety, yet it seems unattainable. People suggest educating women, but if they are educated and decide to work, they become vulnerable to sexual assault. It feels like a misfortune to be born female, particularly when one is poor. The state of affairs is so disheartening, it gives me chills.

The actress from Badhaai Ho asked how she could talk positively when she understands the actual situation. She feels it’s a struggle because of the harsh reality for women living in slums. She wants to find a solution, but can’t seem to come up with one herself.

To those who may be unfamiliar, during a conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia last year, the actress from Panchayat expressed her thoughts as follows: “Rather than subscribing to ’empty feminism’ or the notion that women are equivalent to men, it is more effective to strive for financial self-reliance and dedicate efforts towards your work.

Announcing on the job front, it was revealed on April 3rd that Panchayat Season 4 is set to debut. Starring Jitendar Kumar, Neena Gupta, Raghubir Yadav, and others, this highly anticipated series will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video starting from July 2nd.
