Peacock Nabs ‘Superfakes’ Crime Drama from ‘Poker Face’ Writer Alice Ju, Josh and Benny Safdie

Peacock is diving into the world of counterfeit luxury goods with its latest series pickup.

The streaming platform owned by NBCUniversal has commissioned a crime drama titled “Superfakes“. This series is being created by writer and showrunner Alice Ju, who is known for her work on “Poker Face” and “Beef“. Josh Safdie and Benny Safdie, well-known for their film “Uncut Gems“, are also involved as executive producers. The production of this series is being handled by A24 and Universal Studio Group’s UCP.

In the series, a petty counterfeiter operating in Chinatown’s luxury market is portrayed. This character gets entangled in a perilous underground network as a means to afford an upscale suburban lifestyle for their loved ones.

The Safdies are working on their second scripted television series, having previously collaborated on Showtime’s “The Curse” with Nathan Fielder and serving as executive producers. They have also taken on executive producer roles in HBO’s documentary series “Telemarketers” and the upcoming project titled “Pee-wee as Himself”.

Apart from Beef (which was part of the Netflix show’s 2023 Emmy win for best limited or anthology series), Poker Face, Ju has also worked on Russian Doll and The Other Two in terms of writing and production. A24 is the production company behind Beef, The Curse, and Uncut Gems.

Ju, along with Josh Safdie and Benny Safdie, are serving as executive producers for the project titled “Superfakes“. They are collaborating with Howard Klein and Olivia Gerke from 3 Arts, as well as Ronald Bronstein and Eli Bush on this production.

The show is set to debut alongside a lineup of upcoming dramas on Peacock, which also features “The Five-Star Weekend” starring Jennifer Garner, “All Her Fault” with Sarah Snook, and “The Good Daughter”, an adaptation of Karin Slaughter’s novel.
