Peter Dinklage to Play Agatha Christie’s Poirot in New Audible Adaptation

As a seasoned movie buff with a penchant for classic detective stories and a soft spot for Peter Dinklage’s acting prowess, I am thrilled to see him taking on the role of Hercule Poirot in Agatha Christie’s The Mysterious Affair at Styles. With his exceptional talent for bringing characters to life through voice acting, I have no doubt that he will breathe new life into this iconic detective.

A renowned actor from “Game of Thrones” will delve into the intricate mind of one of literature’s most celebrated detectives, Hercule Poirot, as he brings the iconic character to life in an upcoming Audible production. Dinklage will spearhead a star-studded cast for the dramatized adaptation of Agatha Christie’s timeless novel, “The Mysterious Affair at Styles“, marking yet another portrayal of this classic character. According to the official Agatha Christie website, the story revolves around:

In the forthcoming adaptation, we find Captain Hastings (played by Himesh Patel), a war-weary and tormented hero, being offered respite at Styles Court, a sprawling English manor, to recuperate from his World War I wounds. However, this idyllic retreat swiftly transforms into a horror as the estate’s matriarch, Emily Inglethorp (portrayed by Harriet Walter), is viciously slain. The tranquility of the family begins to unravel amidst the mounting tension and suspicion.

Given a wide array of suspects with potential motives for the crime, everyone seems suspicious. Eager to crack the case and shield his family from relentless media scrutiny, Hastings seeks help from one person only. Known for his sharp wit, stylish attire, and remarkable intuition, Hastings summons the genius detective he used to know – Hercule Poirot, portrayed by Peter Dinklage.

Agatha Christie’s Poirot Gets the All-Star Treatment on Audible

In various forms like movies, plays, and audio productions, Dinklage takes his place among many illustrious actors who have played the fastidious Belgian character, Poirot. Notable names in this list are Charles Laughton, Albert Finney, Peter Ustinov, David Suchet, and the recent big-screen portrayer of Poirot, Kenneth Branagh. Though Dinklage won’t be visually embodying the character, he will breathe life into a fresh interpretation of Poirot through his voice, with a strong supporting cast by his side in this production.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the charismatic Himesh Patel, known for his role in Tenet, will step into the shoes of Poirot’s regular associate, Captain Hastings, in this upcoming production. On the other hand, Jessica Gunning, who made a splash with her performance in Baby Reindeer on Netflix, will portray Evie Howard, the adversary that Poirot encounters in this specific case. Furthermore, Harriet Walter from Succession, Rob Delaney, Phil Dunster, Patry Ferran, John Bradley, and Vivian Oparah are also joining the cast to add depth to this intriguing drama.

Undeniably, the captivating realm of Agatha Christie has been graced by some illustrious talents across her various adaptations. Interestingly enough, I’ve been fortunate to witness British actor David Suchet, who played Poirot in all of Christie’s stories, and his long-running TV series spanning 70 episodes since its debut in 1989. This remarkable show boasted an impressive lineup of guest stars, with the likes of Sean Pertwee from “Gotham”, Peter Capaldi known for his role as the Doctor in “Doctor Who”, Damian Lewis from “Homeland”, Emily Blunt famed for her work in “A Quiet Place”, Michael Fassbender recognized for his part in “X-Men: First Class”, Tim Curry, a legend from “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and many others gracing our screens.

In a similar vein, Kenneth Branagh’s latest grand film versions of three of Christie’s most renowned novels – Death on the Nile, Murder on the Orient Express, and the upcoming 2023 release A Haunting in Venice – have drawn some of Tinseltown’s elite, including Michelle Pfeiffer, Johnny Depp, Gal Gadot, Willem Dafoe, Judi Dench, and Michelle Yeoh. Despite the fact that Branagh’s previous production didn’t set the box office alight last year, it’s possible that we might see the return of Poirot on our screens in the future, even if a new actor takes over the role.

Currently, enthusiasts will get to listen to Peter Dinklage’s portrayal of the detective when The Mysterious Affair at Styles becomes available on Audible, which is scheduled for November 14.
