Rachel Brosnahan to Lead ‘Presumed Innocent’ Season 2 at Apple TV+

Apple TV+’s upcoming season of the legal thriller Presumed Innocent will be spearheaded by a previous Emmy Award recipient.

Actress Rachel Brosnahan, known for her role in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, has agreed to reprise her part for season two of the show created by David E. Kelley and J.J. Abrams’ production company, Bad Robot. Not only will she continue as the main star, but Brosnahan will also take on the role of an executive producer for this upcoming season.

The initial run of the show “Presumed Innocent,” adapted from Scott Turow’s novel, featured Jake Gyllenhaal as a prosecutor who was falsely accused of murdering a fellow worker. For its revival, Apple TV+ decided to transform it into an anthology series instead of pursuing the storyline of Gyllenhaal’s character further; however, he will retain his role as executive producer for season two.

The upcoming season draws inspiration from Jo Murray’s novel, “Dissection of a Murder,” slated for publication in July 2026 by Pan Macmillan. Specific details about the show’s narrative are under wraps; however, the publisher’s summary of the book suggests it revolves around a young lawyer who takes on the case of defending an accused murderer, who is none other than the killer of a highly esteemed judge.

In partnership with Warner Bros. TV, the production companies Bad Robot and David E. Kelley Productions are jointly responsible for the creation of Presumed Innocent. For season two, David E. Kelley and Erica Lipez (known for The Morning Show) will serve as co-showrunners. Abrams, Rachel Rusch Rich from Bad Robot, Matthew Tinker of David E. Kelley Productions, Gyllenhaal through his Nine Stories company, and Brosnahan are all executive producers. Additionally, Turow is a co-executive producer.

Rachel Brosnahan garnered five Emmy nominations for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, claiming the title of best lead actress in a comedy series in 2018. In an upcoming film titled Superman directed by James Gunn, she will portray Lois Lane, set to hit theaters on July 11. Her past roles include House of Cards, Manhattan, and The Amateur. She is represented by Creative Artists Agency (CAA), Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Schreck Rose, and The Lede Company.
