Ramayana: Was Jaideep Ahlawat offered role in Ranbir Kapoor’s mythological drama? Here’s the truth

The upcoming mythological movie by Ranbir Kapoor, titled Ramayana, is generating a lot of excitement within the Hindi film industry. More recently, rumors surfaced online indicating that Jaideep Ahlawat was given the opportunity to play Vibhishan, but had to turn it down because of other obligations. However, a subsequent report clarified that Ahlawat wasn’t actually offered the role initially.

According to a more current article from Mid-day, speculations about Jaideep Ahlawat being given the role of Vibhishan in Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana have been debunked. A reliable source close to the actor confirmed to the publication that no such discussion regarding this role ever occurred.

For those not in the know, it was just Wednesday, specifically April 16, when a report from ETimes indicated that the actor known as Jewel Thief was eager to join an exciting upcoming project. Regrettably, he had to turn down the role due to scheduling issues and existing obligations.

Under the guidance of director Nitesh Tiwari, the highly anticipated adaptation of Ramayana boasts an impressive lineup of acting talent. In this production, Ranbir Kapoor takes on the role of Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi will portray Mata Sita, Yash steps into the shoes of Ravana, Sunny Deol brings Lord Hanuman to life, and Ravi Dubey has been cast as Lakshman.

Beyond what’s already been shared, let me spill the beans – I’m absolutely thrilled to mention that Lara Dutta, Kunal Kapoor, Arun Govil, and a host of other talented actors are set to grace our screens in key roles for this upcoming film. What’s even more intriguing is that this cinematic masterpiece is being divided into two parts! As an ardent fan, I can hardly contain my excitement for what lies ahead!

In November last year, Namit Malhotra, the producer, announced on his social media platforms that he had begun a noble endeavor over a decade ago: to bring the epic Ramayana, which has captivated billions of hearts for more than 5000 years, to the big screen. Now, I am filled with joy as I witness our teams working diligently to create an authentic, sacred, and visually stunning adaptation of our history, truth, and culture – our “Ramayana” – for people all around the world.

Come be a part of our journey as we make our most cherished dream a reality by crafting an epic masterpiece filled with honor and respect… We’re thrilled to share that Part 1 will debut on the festive occasion of Diwali 2026, followed by the release of Part 2 during Diwali 2027.

Meanwhile, Jaideep will be next seen in Netflix’s Jewel Thief, releasing on April 28, 2025.
