⚠️ CAUTION FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN’T FINISHED REACHER SEASON 3 ON AMAZON PRIME: The subsequent content might disclose crucial plot points. Therefore, it would be prudent to tread carefully if you haven’t finished the latest installment featuring our towering protagonist.
It appears that nearly every popular TV series is spawning a spin-off lately, and I must confess, it’s been a bit irritating for me. In fact, when I learned that Frances Neagley, the character played by Maria Sten on Reacher, was getting her own show, my first thought was, “Why?” – considering we’re still early in the critically acclaimed Amazon Prime series.
That was before the later episodes of the action-packed series’ third season premiered on the 2025 TV schedule. Now, I am looking forward to Neagley – which is now in production, as Sten confirmed on Instagram – almost as much as I’m anticipating Reacher Season 4, if not more. Allow me to explain…
I Miss Neagley Anytime She Is Not On Screen
Frances Neagley, whose “g” is silent, first appeared in Lee Child’s sixth Jack Reacher novel titled “Without Fail“. However, her character was more fully developed during the initial season of the thrilling Amazon Prime series when Alan Ritchson’s character, the title hero, enlists her aid for several episodes. In the second season of Reacher, Neagley became a significant co-lead and contributed to the series’ enjoyable continuation in my opinion. Although Sten remains credited as a series regular in Reacher Season 3, her role will be noticeably diminished, which is logical since Neagley does not appear in the original novel, “Persuader“.
Initially, character Nick Santora and his team skillfully integrated her into the narrative in a way that seemed genuine, even prompting me to look forward to her future scenes. Although she wasn’t present for several episodes, by the sixth one, it was evident that she had become an integral part of Reacher’s mission alongside Susan Duffy (played by Sonya Cassidy) and Guillermo Villanueva (Roberto Montesinos). This collaboration made the entire season feel cohesive to me. It was actually episode 6 that reassured me about the quality of Neagley.

One Reacher Season 3 Scene Proves Neagley Can Stand On Her Own
Since Neagley aids Reacher in his covert investigation against an illicit arms trade led by an old foe named Xavier Quinn (Brian Tee), she finds herself under threat as assassins invade her Chicago office. Despite being outnumbered, she successfully subdues them. One of the attackers, mortally wounded and desperate for help, pleads with Neagley to summon an ambulance before he bleeds out. She does make the call to 911, but informs the pursuer that the paramedics might arrive too late.
For the first time in this series thus far, Reacher handed Neagley an action-packed scene all her own, leaving me, the movie critic, on the edge of my seat. The outcome was a thrilling and somewhat darkly comedic moment that shone brightly against the backdrop of the season, thanks to Sten’s captivating performance. In this instance, it became crystal clear to me that Neagley could more than hold her own without Ritchson by her side.
It’s also exciting to imagine Jack Reacher appearing in at least one scene of the series Neagley. In fact, a casual encounter where they catch up, demonstrating his commitment from Season 2 to stay more connected, would be delightful. If Ritchson doesn’t appear in the spin-off, I’m confident that the show will still be captivating once it’s available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
