As a long-time gamer and avid comic book fan, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the arrival of Red Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for years. The recent reveal of Harrison Ford’s transformation into the character in “Captain America: Brave New World” has only added fuel to my excitement.
As a dedicated gamer following the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I’ve been eagerly anticipating the latest developments in “Captain America: Brave New World.” The trailer left me thrilled when it revealed Harrison Ford’s transformation into Red Hulk, a character we’ve heard rumors about for quite some time. Though we knew this was coming due to early merchandise leaks, seeing the not-so-jolly red giant as the final shot in the trailer really got my heart racing! This revelation has sparked excitement within the fan community, and I’ve even seen an influx of fantastic fan art depicting Red Hulk’s arrival.
During the promotion for “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” Ford was questioned about his role in Marvel Studios’ initial release of 2025. The discussion then veered towards the potential emergence of Red Hulk, to which Ford responded casually, “What is Red Hulk?” This exchange left fans convinced that the film would introduce the character, over a decade and a half after his comic book debut in “Hulk” Volume 2, Issue 1.
There’s ongoing debate among fans about Red Hulk’s role in the upcoming film and if it will set the stage for significant encounters between him and Bruce Banner’s Hulk. This speculation has fueled an impressive artwork from BossLogic, depicting a future clash of these iconic characters.
Who is Red Hulk?
I was thrilled when Red Hulk made his debut in the comics back in 2008! Little did I know that this formidable character was actually an alter ego of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. He had been granted the power to transform into Red Hulk as a response to Bruce Banner’s enraged Hulk. This revelation, which took place during the “World War Hulks” saga, also unveiled that Red Hulk had taken on other identities such as Robert Maverick and Joe Fixit. More recently, in 2015’s “Secret Wars,” I caught a glimpse of Red Hulk, leaving me wondering if this could be a hint towards his role in the upcoming movie.
In a subtle continuation of the storyline from “The Incredible Hulk” (2008), “Captain America: Brave New World” brings back some familiar faces. Ed Norton’s role as Bruce Banner/Hulk has been a point of dispute due to copyright complications, but we may still see Mark Ruffalo reprise the part. The film also welcomes the return of Betty Ross, portrayed by Liv Tyler, and Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader, setting the stage for Anthony Mackie’s debut as Captain America’s first villain.
As a dedicated Marvel fan, I’ve longed for the day when Marvel Studios would adapt the epic “World War Hulk” storyline for the MCU. Alas, due to Paramount’s control over the Hulk character rights, it’s been a challenge for him to have his own movie without their consent. Instead, we’ve seen him take on secondary roles in ensemble films like “Avengers” and “Thor: Ragnarok,” and even in the upcoming “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.”
As a gamer, I’m excited about Thaddeus Ross’ transformation in this Marvel movie and how it could impact the upcoming project, Thunderbolts. Although Marvel has been tight-lipped about it, there are rumors that the title might change at some point in the future. With several projects in the pipeline and the industry buzzing with anticipation, we can only hope that Marvel’s SDCC appearance later this month will shed some light on where the MCU is headed in the next few years, especially considering the challenges we faced recently.
Captain America: Brave New World
