As a movie enthusiast with decades of cinematic memories etched into my mind, I can’t help but feel a wave of excitement wash over me with this latest partnership between Regal Cinemas and Fandango! Having grown up going to the movies at local theaters, I remember the days when buying tickets and concessions was a separate process. Now, with this collaboration, it seems that convenience will be taken to a whole new level – pre-purchasing popcorn and drinks alongside my ticket right from the Fandango app!
In a recent announcement on Tuesday, the second-biggest movie theater chain in the U.S., Regal Cinemas, has signed a fresh multiyear agreement with Fandango, as both parties confirmed.
Based in Knoxville, Tennessee, the local cinema chain has teamed up with Fandango, which is owned by Comcast, to give advertisers the opportunity to reach audiences through Regal’s digital presence as well as Fandango’s website and applications, plus Rotten Tomatoes’ platform. The companies claim that these platforms combined reach approximately 50 million entertainment consumers every month.
In their broadened partnership with Fandango, both our companies emphasized the need to innovate and improve the cinema experience for our customers and boost theatre attendance across the industry. According to John Curry, svp of commercial at Regal, we’re currently developing fresh ideas in ticketing, ecommerce, and advertising, and are eager to release these innovative solutions to the public shortly.
Furthermore, this arrangement allows Fandango users to purchase snacks in advance at Regal cinemas through the ticketing platform’s app and website. The two companies also intend to team up on creating collector’s items and exclusive merchandise.
“Will McIntosh, Fandango’s president, expressed his excitement about strengthening our existing bond with Regal, by providing innovative ticket options to Regal patrons and top-notch advertising opportunities for studios and brands aiming to connect with our vast audience of movie enthusiasts,” was added.
As a devoted cinephile, I’m excited to share that Regal Cinemas, with its impressive 425 domestic theaters, falls under the ownership of Cineworld Group – a company that successfully emerged from bankruptcy last August and is now under the guidance of CEO Eduardo Acuna. Intriguingly, in July, this exhibitor unveiled plans to invest $250 million to elevate its venues, enhancing them with luxurious recliners and other delightful amenities.
